We've got this outdoor kitty that's so damn affectionate...

It should be alright to handle said kitteh. Give it a few captions if you like. Just make sure if you keep the cat to give it some frontline. The wife/newborn will be fine. Besides, the newborn's immune system needs to build up tolerances to things like cats/pollen/whatever. Not everything has to be double-sanitized with an extra coating of lysol...

Huh? Why does it matter that there is an infant in the house? And pregnant women shouldn't clean litterboxes? What? Never heard of any of these things before, but they sound like nonsense.

If you happen to get fleas in your house, best way to get rid of them is to turn up the heat in the house. Fleas can't survive more than a few minutes in 90+ degree temps.

What? You're gonna need to provide a link for that. Considering the normal temp for a cat is ~102F. I'm betting the ambient temp at the skin, nestled in all that fur, is over 90F.

"1. Bake fleas out of your house. This is the quickest way I know of to destroy fleas. Their preferred temperature is only up to 80 degrees, so you only have to heat your house to about 90 degrees to kill them. Remove children, plants and pets, close up your house, and turn up the heat to the highest setting. Go on an outing for the day; when you return, the fleas will be killed."

If you catch Toxoplasmosis while pregnant it can cause birth defects. But if you already have it or catch after birth than it's a non-issue.
