We've got hoarders.

It's our house. We are renting it. THEY asked us to come over because their mother in law claimed she was locked out. She was not there when we got there, killing time at a local mall or something. We opened the door without any problems, no idea why she said her key didn't work. It's an hours drive out there too so this was annoying. Once opened I checked around a bit to make sure everything was all right, it's during this that I took some pics.
Maybe her key doesn't work or she was just using the wrong one.

Wouldn't really bother me that much to tell you the truth. If I rented it would bother me even less. Depends on the nature of the photographs too. If it's photographs of the rooms and my stuff simply happens to be there then it really wouldn't bother me at all.
Perhaps it's this very mindset that led you to take photos around but really not many people like having their stuff photographed without their permission, knowledge or even idea what they would be used for.

Even if your family owns the place they are renting, they are still entitled to privacy within the premise (and I'm sure the contract will stipulate that somewhere anyway).

My dad is somewhat of a hoarder. He looks like he's playing tetris whenever he re-arranges all the boxes so he won't have to throw anything away. :hmm:

tell them they have to put some of that in storage. i own condominiums in san francisco that i rent out and luckily ive never had to deal with a situation like that, but if i did i would have no problem telling them to get all the crap out, its a fire hazard and can attract pests. also tell them to pay a visit to their local reading room to get audited so they can find out why they do what they do

Daddy's a hoarder...

So there's a lot of make-up, so is the woman the hoarder with the man complacent, or are they together? In my house, only 1 is a hoarder, and from TV shows, it looks like having 2 hoarders marry is rare.

My diagnosis of Locut0s:

Low individualism
high power distance

This is conflicting with our western values of

High individualism and
Low power distance

This is why he assumed that being the land-lord (high power distance) and taking pictures of someone else's house (low individuality) was not a violation of societal norms. I wouldn't judge him wrong, just understand that he was raised with a different set of cultural assumptions. This is Hofstede's Dimensions, I prefer the more nuanced GLOBE initiative; but for general conversation Hofstede is cool.
