westerns

Recommend some western movies for me. I've already seen/have The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly and The Magnificent Seven. I own but haven't seen Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid.

I believe I have all of Clint Eastwood's westerns in my netflix queue now.

I'm not sure if I want to get the John Wayne movies even though he's like THE western guy. I've seen parts of his movies on tv and they seem too...nice...i guess. Like Clint Eastwood's movies seem to be darker and grittier and that appeals to me more.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

Robert Redford liked that character so much he named his organization after it.

The Shootist...John Wayne said it was his best work. A must see.

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (J Stewart and Lee Mavin) Damn good B&W movie.

Tom Horn (Steve McQueen) 😎

The Treasure of Sierra Madre (Walter Huston and Humphrey Bogart)=CLASSIC!!

Lonesome Dove...for a 9 hour mini-series.

Quigley Down Under

I haven't seen either. Wouldn't Down Under imply Australia? Australia != western. Could be wrong....

It is set in the 1800's and is a American film about a cowboy who travels from the US to Australia as he is hired on to be a Cowboy there. It is a western by all accounts.

Treasure of the Sierra Madre is excellent as well. So another vote for this one from me!

For western comedies:

My Name is Nobody imdb

Support Your Local Sheriff imdb

Support Your Local Gunfighter imdb

(Blazing Saddles already mentioned.)

Look at the John Wayne list at IMDB too. Rio Lobo, True Grit, the Sons of Katie Elder, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, Angel and the Badman, and Stagecoach are all top tier.
