I recently found a steal of a deal on a 55" plasma. Turns out the site is 2 weeks old, and required Western Union payments. Shipped using your name in FROM and TO box.
Doesnt include receipt. Now my question is why doesnt WE provide protections for people t'ferrring $ to places like these?

Why should WU be responsible for how people want to spend their money?

What is confusing you about my post?

I think his point is that WU knows their service is used for scams, but seemingly doesn't care. Credit cards, among other services, have built in protections where you at least have some recourse should you get scammed.

Do you know the legitimate use of WU is?

To get money to people who have lost their ID or had it stolen. So how do you want them to protect people in that case?

The protection from WU is you should know who you are sending money to. That is all they should do.

If you are so stupid to pay for crap with WU, you deserve to be removed from your money.

Yes, WU is a mechanism to get money from one person to another. It's not designed for merchant transactions. When you do a transaction with WU, you are saying "give this money to John Smith". If you expect John Smith to do something for YOU like ship merchandise, you are doing that on 100% faith.

I don't understand why anyone would think WU ought to stick their nose in to money transfers.

Credit cards are set up to deal with merchants, to handle disputes, etc. That's not what WU does, tries to do, or claims to do.

Why the heck would anyone be stupid enough to send money WU to someone they don't know and trust? If you're that stupid, no mechanism is going to protect you from your own stupidity. Should the bank put a little question on the ATM screen when you withdraw cash like "dear customer, please be aware that handing your cash to total stranger by mail in th hopes of getting something back is not a good idea"?? ;)

No legitimate business uses WU as the only payment form, that should pretty much be an immediate indicator that it's a scam......
