I've had absolutely no problems with them. Very reliable, cool and quiet running. And not too far behind IBM's 6GXP in performance.

The new WD series looks quite good, Storage Review has stated that the 100GB model will topple the 60GXP for leaderboard position of 7200RPM IDE drive. A 100GB drive performing that well, that quiet, and running that cool is remarkable. WD has been suffering from a bad quality control reputation as of late, but every manufacturer runs into bad luck streaks.

i like the BB-series alot, as RAND mentionned they are quite and don't get as hot as comparable IBM- or MAXTOR-harddisks.

but i can't give any statement on reliability because we just began selling them recently.

by the way, the models we used so far were 300BB, 400BB, 600BB and 800BB,
no 1000BB yet.

funny cuz i just got done RMAing 2 of them... maybe it was just cuz the box was dropped or something... i don't know... but it ticked me off... i don't think any of the manufacturers really have a driver that fails more often w/ the exception of the 45GB 75GXP from IBM... everything else i think is normal...

WD had some serious problems with their 6.4 to 8.6gig drives a couple of years ago, it's amazing how that information is mistakenly applied to their newer drives.

I have two 20gig and one 10 gig ata66 running here at home, two smaller ata33 ones as removeable backup, and a 30 gig ata100 still in the box. No problems at all, WD has served me well... their stuff is as good as anybody's, better than some....

They may not have any quality control problems at the moment, but I know their drives are more sensitive to shock than comparable Maxtor's and they *DO* run hotter (than Maxtors, at any rate).

I've had 2 400BB's for a few months, no problems at all. Fast and very quiet. Thinking of buying a few more, they've been $105 at newegg lately.
