Discussion Western Digital SN810 - Insane speed!

I am just astonished! I have a Samsung PM9A1 2TB in my Dell XPS 13 9310 laptop which is equivalent to the 980 PRO. I just bought this Alienware x15 R2 laptop which came with a 1TB WD SN810 SSD and the speed is just mind blowing! Wasn't expecting it to even come close to the Samsung PM9A1/980 PRO

I'm not familiar with the SN810, it sorta looks like maybe an OEM version of the SN850? Sure performs like it.

I have both a 2TB 980 Pro and a 2TB SN850 and the SN850 is generally faster in my testing.

That's weird, according to the datasheet the SN810 is slower in every reported metric. Between the full size (no forced OP), weird pricing, and general lack of info about it despite being already used by OEM's I really think it's an OEM drive or at least primarily intended for OEMs.

Potato pototo.... it is what it is and I stuck with SN850's personally on my new build. I tried another option based on a Phison controller and decided to go WD instead.

OP's post though shows it's a waste of $$$'s going with Samsung all of the time. Samsung drives are not niche any longer like they used to be. There's some serios competition between drives and SS better watch out or they'll be in a losing battle.

Yes I am quite happy with the 2TB XPG S70 I got on sale. It even came with the updated firmware. As long as a drive gets good reviews, has decent warranty/support, and is in the ballpark, I would go with whatever is on sale nicely.

Someone want to tell me why this the 850, or the 750 cost considerably more than the 970/80 Evo per TB? The Samsungs are going for $200-210 for 2 TB, these WD units cost considerably more.
