I just bought a 80gb SE drive and in sandra 2003 I only get 12800 in the filesystem test, and my old 30gb maxtor 5400rpm got 20000....how does that happen? It says the 120gb 7200 8mb cache should get around 31000 or something...why is my drive so slow? I have tried different ide slots and cables with no performance difference.

bump....also I get 1150 on the HDD test in pcmark 2002, I don't know whether that is good or not? I just want to make sure this thing is running at or near what it is supposed to.

my computer > properties > device manager > disk drives.

DMA should be checked.

Mine is 800JB too.
I got pretty low score too in Sandra too.
Forget about Sandra, it's not accurate.

I can feel this hd is pretty fast, trust your sense, not Sandra.

I'm using IAA, set the hd to max performance instead of min noise.

I have the same problem... but it is the drive... I have had 2 WD 120BB that cannot sustain a tranfer rate. Both worked for about 2 months... then scored went WAY down. Reformatted, moved to different computer... drive is junk. WD is sending my 3rd to try...

Could be a quality issue with this drive. The burst tests ok... and seek ok... but transfer stinks...

TEST YOUR DRIVES!!!!!
