I *think* WD is phasing out BB and JB/JD series drives for their new quieter fluid-bearing counterparts (LB and PB/PD).

BB = 7200 RPM, 2MB cache, ATA100, ball bearings
JB = 7200 RPM, 8MB, ATA100, ball
JD = 7200 RPM, 8MB, SATA150, ball
LB = 7200 RPM, 2MB, ATA100, fluid
PB = 7200 RPM, 8MB, ATA100, fluid
PD = 7200 RPM, 8MB, SATA150, fluid
GD = 10000 RPM, 8MB, SATA150, ball (old 36GB Rapto) or fluid (new 36G/74GB Raptors)

I have the WD740GD and idle is extremely quiet, and comparable to my DM+9 80GB drive. The WD seeks are quite audible.
