Western Digital RE3 vs Caviar Black 1TB

I've been doing homework on which new HDD to purchase for video editting projects and some general storage. As such I want a 1TB drive as I'm out of space in general atm, and need around 600gb of space for lossless video.

The RE3 is at a hefty premium of $160 compared to the $110 for the Caviar Black -- are there reliability or performance issues with the Caviars that lead them to be that much cheaper? I can't find specs anywhere that list the actual read speeds or seek times for the Caviar Black, for example.

Any insights are appreciated.
 
Thanks for the article. I think I'd rather spend the bit extra for it (buying a 2nd one and raid-striping later this summer has come to mind), and I'd rather not risk premature failure when dealing with 1TB of data 🙂
