Western Digital HD-WD6400AAKS $99.99 + shipping @ Directron for 72 hours

I assume this is 2x320 platters?
Is this supposed to be the better of all the other 640GB drives out there?

this is the only 640gb drive on the market.

and it has 320gb drives. its also basically the fastest 7200rpm drive out there.

whats better this or that 750 GB or whatever it was Samsung drive?

the samsung uses 250 gb platters but it has 32mb cache.. this is probably faster most of the time from the benchmarks i've seen. but the samsung has more space obviously.

i personally got the WD just because since i live in CA and the samsung deal is at newegg, this actuallly cost something lik e$22 less for me. that and its faster.

Thanks OP. In for one. Used a coupon code to save another $2 (SUPER75). If you go over $100 you can use SUPER100 and save $3.

Raptors are 10K RPM.

BTW, there are directron coupons that can be found at other deals sites.

techreport has a great review: http://techreport.com/articles.x/14380

The samsung seems to do slightly better most of the time, but in a few tests does worse. It's so close though, that I'd just go with whatever deal give you a better GB/$ ratio.

the 300gb raptor is uh $300 though. so 3 times as expensive.

the wd64000aaks genreally exceeds the 150gb raptor at transfer rates, but obviously is still slower at access times since its only 7200rpm

but its probably "close enough" for most people.

Newegg also sells the wd6400aaks. The wd7500aaks is a three platter drive (250GB x 3) for 750GB unformatted capacity. These are two platter drivers (320GB x 2) for 640GB capacity.
