Western Digital Drive

I've got it running from floppy on an old system with 80GB disk which is about 2yrs old. It started out showing like 290+ hrs & went down to about 270 but after running 4hrs it's now estimating 325+ hrs. The last time in XP the event viewer showed a bad block error & Windoze won't even boot to safe mode. I did a system restore when it last booted, checked for mal-ware, defraged & set it to do a check disk at next boot but it's been a no go. Mem-Test = ok. Power & temps = ok. It's an Epox 8KHA+ mainboard with about 12 caps around cpu area showing some leakage. It dual boots to Win98 on seperate drive & runs it fine. XP boot fail says config\sys gone or corrupt. Should I abort this scan to trouble shoot otherwise? Thanks for any help.

EDIT: It finally quit with a "Too many errors found" message. Is there any hope for this drive?

EDIT: Verdict=both. I put it in the freezer for a bit & installed it upside down & managed to boot in safe mode. Hopefully it'll last long enough to transfer files of most import.

Thanks GY, I'm aware of the bad caps thing & I added the HD site to my list, looks like a good resource. I may tinker with the caps sometime but I think now it's time to move on & bring the old box up to date. I've got a gig of Corsair, a 6800GT, & an A64 3000 that need a new home anyway. It's the wife's machine & it'll be plenty fast for her with a little OC & a new drive.
