I pretty much got the same word from CSR as XL. Should have them in stock on 22nd.
Wait and see I guess?

I am scouring the net for any rumors of an 80GB WD and have yet to see anything. Kind of unusual wouldn't you say!

Who knows, maybe they were initial production runs by WD for engineering test samples?

Nothing to lose I guess but aggravation (hopefully no restock fees and loss of shipping charges!)

Just got off the phone with Jason at Compsource.
It's a no go!
He said you should be getting cancellation emails.

oLLie,
No need to scream! We appreciate your contribution and took it into consideration.
Hot Dealers are gonna do what they darn well please. About 5% of these far out deals actually do come thru so we take a gamble and hope for the best.

I was kind of hoping they were mistaking the new Maxtor 80gb 7200rpms.

for once its not the senior members making as$es of themselves!

Now its the astute junior members asking TECH SUPPORT about a pre-released drive.

I wouldn't put too much stock in what a rep from WD said. She could have just been a ditz. But, like most, I'm going to wait and see how everything pans out before declaring "This IS going to happen!" or "There's NO such thing, you're all idiots!" Not using my cc just yet.

I ordered one of these from PC Nation. Apparently my order was cancelled but I didn't receive an e-mail to that effect. I was told that this is a good sku# and to call back on it Feb 1st. I then went to the compsource web site and found it still listed but saw call in the stock space. I called compsource and was told that this is an error that was taken off the site once already. A distributer sent information to them that they posted. Compsource verified with both the distributer and Western Digital and in fact it is bogus. Western Digital said they don't have plans to make a 80 gig yet. Too bad for us. This would have been a absolutley fantastic deal if it were for real. Everyone must admit it did sound too good to be true!
