A word to the wise. Once again, this is the same rebate form & PO box from the 80gb last week, & the 60gb the week before. Ypu can only get one of these rebates sent to you. Any others must be filled out under others names, as Use of This Rebate Form is limited to one request per person/ household, etc.

Thats exactly what you are. You give us a better deal instead of saying how cold this one is. And don't bother with the deal on an 80 from last week. That one is DEAD, so it is no longer HOT.

You can get this from newegg.com

Seagate Barracuda IV ST340016A 40gb 7200rpm ATA-100 EIDE, $87 new w/3 yr warranty

No rebates required, and on top of that you'd have a Barracuda instead of a POS WD. A few $$$ more but worth it!

Well, maybe it could be warmed up by pm'ing to Micro Center for 103.99. See below, if it will work. I used the Blue card and just filed a claim for the price difference. Don't know if it will work at B&M.
$103.99 Micro Center PM
- 20.00 coupon
- 30.00 rebate
53.99+tax Net cost

<< Though the Western Digital name doesn't sweeten the deal. ;) >>

Is there something wrong with WD? I bought a 30 gig a while ago and have had no problems with it. Is there
something I don't know that I should?!?

No, there is nothing wrong with Western Digital hard drives. There is some hard drive snobbery going on here. Some people will tell you anything but IBM hard drives are garbage. Then other's will say the same about Seagate, or Maxtor. "I wouldn't put ______ in my dog's computer". This is a good to very good price on a good to very good hard drive.

You should have nothing to worry about with your hard drive. It should do fine for you.

Here is what happened to me and why I don't like to shop from officemax any more
I got on the 60Gb WD HD deal with the same rebate offer last week (was that 2 weeks?) I got the package delivered the packing slip reads 60Gb HD 7200rpm
I open the box which was too light for a hard drive. Sure enough it was a brand new copy of Turbo Tax 2001 inside and no Hard drive...
Soooo... I called office max and they appologized and said UPS will pick up the turbo tax software and send out a replacement Hard drive.
So I said ok.
5 minutes later they called me back and says, "We have to charge your credit card again for the new drive but don't worry we will credit the old drive back" to which again I said ok.
2 days later UPS picked up the software.
One week later I still have no Hard drive. So I called them again and they said they know nothing about a replacement shipment. Nothing was shipped out and I asked them to ship it out immediately. They said ok what's your credit card number...
at that moment I asked, I can't get that rebate any more for the 60Gb HD right. and the answer is yes the rebate offer expired last week. So I hung up and didn't give him my credit card number.
I had been more than a week since they picked up the Turbo tax software and so far my credit card is still charged for the HD I never received with no credit from them in sight.
Just my adventure with Officemax.com thought I would share.

It all depends on the timeframe when people bought HDs. Westerns were not so great around 3 years ago since they had some sort of problem with the fluid they used or something I don't remember and lots of them went bad. I don't think anything is wrong with any of the Westerns out today. I know for a fact that Seagate's first version of the Barracuda ATA drive was crap. I knew many people who had it die on them within 3 to 4 months. But from what I have seen the new Barracuda's are good drives. Maxtor has had the same sort of problems but not anytime recently. I think they have been doing great since they came out with their 20GB DiamondMax Plus drives back in the day. IBM on the other hand had some really crappy 75GXPs. I have one and I had it have so many bad sectors with only 6 months of use. I just did a low level format on it and it's working fine now. Mainly the 75GXPs don't do so well in hot systems. Two of my friends had to send them back and get them replaced but they ended up getting 60gigers back(sent in a 45GB). Not to bad of a deal. I wish I had sent mine in when it was bad. The newer 60GXPs are much better then the 75GXP when it comes to heat and performance. I would have to recommend the Maxtor or the Western Digitals when it comes to write performance. The IBM and Seagate drives are great at read speeds but they don't come close to the Western or Maxtor when it comes to write speed and that's what matters when you do a lot of audio/video editing.

Well, I did the 80gb deal on the second day, it worked just fine in my area. All said and done, 80GB drive and some paperclips for 89 bucks.

But, that isn't available anymore and this is still a very good deal.

How can you really be sorry but still continue to post your crap anyway?!? I don't get it. Thread crapping isn't looked highly upon no matter how sorry you are. For deals available NOW, this is a good deal.

Those who got this for $75 forgot to price match! I got my 40GB for $47.

Since Frys (and even outpost) have this drive for $99.95 and $102, you can pricematch that!

P.S. Beware of OM pricematching Outpost as they add $7.95 overnight charges. So a PM of $102 is better!
