CircuitCity has a Very WARM to HOT deal on the WD 250GB Hard drive w/8mb cache

on Sale for $79.99 with free ship

after $100 in rebates

Great price. Last time I got the hot deal on this drive when it was like $110 AR. This is smokin.

I saw that in the flier today, was thinking about getting it, defineatly good post.

I've got 4 of these drives in various computers, I've never had a problem with them. $80 is cheaper than I paid for them, but $100 in rebates is a bit much.

System requirements

40-pin EIDE interface, available internal drive bay, CD-ROM (for software installation)

General features

Maximum capacity- 250GB

Internal or external- Internal

Warranty Parts- 12 Months

Warranty Labor- 12 Months

Everything sounded awesome until I read "after rebates". I hate rebates, not counting instant rebates.
Like someone said above, putting AR in your Title might be a good idea.
Wonderful price if you get the rebates though.

good deal, and i wouldnt mind joining the terrabyte club, but 100 in rebates is a lot to have tied up. its been nice though, getting all my rebates from the last couple harddrives i bought.

Agree totally. My lifetime chance of getting rebates back is around 50%, if that.

Now I don't buy anything with rebates unless the original price is satisfactory. The OP doesn't seem too concerned with putting AR in his subject line, but I'd hope others in the future will, so us rebate-haters can ignore the thread 🙂

Went into CC today, they had two drives, but both were ball-bearing, had to leave empty-handed... WD sucks balls for not moving all drives to fluid bearing already.

I snagged one of these and then did the PM to Sams Club. It'll total about $30 after PM and rebates. I also did the same with a CC offer on a WD 160 last week. And don't believe those that say the PM invalidates the rebate. It never has in my experience, and I've done a good handful of these deals.

Other forums have covered this fairly extensively as well as elsewhere in this forum.

True. I wish I had known this before I bought mine yesterday. Now, I'm uncertain.

This storage review article from 2003 says it's really good, for a ball bearing drive, but it's still a ball bearing drive.

Though it remains equipped with more traditional ball bearing motors as opposed to newer fluid dynamic bearing motor technology, the Caviar WD2500JB is nonetheless the first three-platter WD JB design to turn in an objectively-measured noise floor below 45 dB/A. Its score indicates that, when properly mounted in a sturdy case, the 2500JB's spindle noise will likely be overshadowed by that of other system components. Seeks, likewise, are quite muted and unobtrusive.

The 2500JB's net temperature after heavy use hovers just under 20 degrees Celsius, a score similar to all of the manufacturer's recent three-platter designs. A properly-ventilated system should have no problems with this drive.

The only thing is, the computer I wanted this drive for was going to go into an HTPC rig, with a really quiet seagate drive, and undervolted fans. And I sleep in the same room it resides in.

EDIT: No, wait, maybe not. According to this post on the WD tech support forumit has fluid bearings.

FYI the WD2500JB now has the fluid dynamic bearings formerly only on the WD2500PB - or so WD tech support are telling me.

So the WD2500PB is dead

Edit 2: This forum thread over at SPCR seems to confirm the above. So it's a toss-up as to whether you get the fluid or ball-bearings.

Local Circuit City here had plenty of the drives but refused to price match Sam's Club. What's the deal here? I bought one anyway since $80 is still a good price, but why are some areas PM'ing while others don't? Anyway I can dispute that $50 since their policy says they will price match any local advertised price (actually says they will beat it by 10% of the difference)?

I don't care if it was free after rebates. FVCK MIR! I've been burned WAY too many times now. Now instant rebates, that's another story.

Same with me. It said they won't PM to sams club. I went to another store and they said they won't pricematch because it has a rebate and you "pratically get it for free" is what they said. I'll go back tomorrow to the same stores again and see if someone else will do it. Actually at the second store the cashier first said "we can't PM to a paper printed off the internet", and I went to customer service and they said the BS about not doing a PM after the rebate.

edit
I wonder if you can do their pricematch BS though. Like buy a drive at Sam's Club, go to Circuit City buy another, and then return it for the 110% thing. You can send in the rebate from the UPC's on the box. Doesn't say anything about having to keep the drive in the rebate terms.
