But if for some crazy reason it is still in stock at your local store (as a discontinued item) you'll have a real hard time trying to convince the store clerk or manager why he/she should sell it to you instead of keeping the drive to himself/herself.

I dont think anyone got this deal except the first person who reported this a few days back on FW.
All others were cleared up by the staples employees.

Great deal, but I could find none in CT. There was a store that was listed on Staples ASU 400 system as having two, but when I got there, they said, I was one of many who had stopped by looking for the $14.50 ext HD. They had sent the two back to the main office (this is what the sales guy said) a few weeks back but for some reason their system kept showing their store as having two in inventory.

Oh well - another 'urban legend' type of Staples YMMV deal - no go in CT.
