Could someone please give me some advise whether I should jump in this deal before the 20% off expires this evening?
Which is more likely, with or without warranty?
Seems like comments are mixed.

Only you can make that decision. I mean, what do you expect ppl to say? I personally used this deal and got a fully authentic WD drive with WD label and 3 year warranty (verified sn on wd's warranty website).

Ardy,

Thanks for the heads up. I got scared for a minute but I'm pretty sure this is the 8MB model even though I haven't opened it up yet. The MDL shows WD1200JB-75CRA0 and my seral number does start WMA8CXXXXXXX which is consistent with what Aznkid is showing. I'm pretty sure I plugged in the correct serial number and did it again but I'm thinking their records are either wrong by serial number or they put the wrong stamp with the wrong model number on it. Are there any utilities that tell me the amount of cache on the HD itself? Now I'm ready to plug this thing in just to make sure they sent me the right part.

Is still still offering a $20 or $30 off coupon? If so, I'd totally jump for two 120 giggers.

FWIW, copied directly from DELL:

New or reconditioned add-on hardware may be purchased through two different departments at Dell: Dell Sales (new parts) or Dell Spare Parts Sales (reconditioned parts). The warranties and return policies for new parts are different from the warranties and return policies for reconditioned parts, as described in this section.

NOTES: These policies do not pertain to products purchased through DellWare. This information applies to the United States and Canada only, unless specifically stated otherwise.

Limited Warranties for Add-On Hardware

New parts are purchased through the Dell Sales department and carry a one-year limited warranty beginning on the invoice date. Under this limited warranty, if the part fails due to defects in materials or workmanship during the one-year period, Dell will replace the part. Once installed in or on a DellTM system, the part may carry the longer of either a one-year warranty or the remainder of the warranty or service contract period for the Dell system in or on which it is installed. The type of labor coverage (parts-delivery, on-site, or return-to-Dell) is determined by the type of labor coverage for the system in which it is installed. If the part is installed in or on a non-Dell product or a Dell product that is out of warranty or not under a service contract, the warranty for the part is limited to one year. Any new parts purchased that are listed as not covered under Dell's limited warranties are covered only by the original manufacturer's warranty. Dell memory, identified by a 7xxxxx-1 part number format, may assume the remainder of the warranty or service contract period for the Dell system in or on which it is installed. Dell memory is also covered under a lifetime manufacturer's warranty, post 30 days from date of purchase, by calling 888-363-5150.

Reconditioned parts are purchased through Dell Spare Parts Sales and carry a 90-day limited warranty. Under this limited warranty, Dell will replace the part if the part fails due to defects in materials or workmanship during the 90-day period beginning on the invoice date. Once installed in or on a Dell system, the reconditioned part may carry the longer of either 90 days or the remainder of the warranty or service contract period for the Dell system in or on which it is installed. The type of labor coverage (parts-delivery, on-site, or return-to-Dell) is determined by the type of labor coverage for the system in or on which it is installed. If a part is installed in or on a non-Dell product or a Dell product that is out of warranty or not under a service contract, the warranty for the part is limited to 90 days. Any reconditioned parts purchased that are listed as not covered under Dell's limited warranties are covered only by the original manufacturer's warranty.

Returns for Add-On Hardware

Add-on hardware may be returned for refund or credit in accordance with Dell's then-current "Total Satisfaction" Return Policy (United States Only).

Where is this mystery "30 Day" stuff?

The 30 day thing eludes me also. Looks to me that somebody got screwed in the past, and is passing it off as Dell policy.

This is awesome news!

I just checked the serial numbers on both of the JB's I got from Dell, and Western Digital says that they fall under a 3 year warrenty (expires 06/03/2005). This is awesome! I have never had a problem returning a drive to Western Digital, and they ship out replacements fast.

Who cares how many days Dell warrenties the drives, Western Digital gives you the full 3 years!!!! Awesome! Glad I jummped on it! :D;):D;):D

When I finally opened up the drive to see under the anti-static bag, I noticed that the number 3 on the serial numbers look very similar to 8s. So I plugged in the corrected serial number and sure enough it's reporting the correct drive model number and it still has the 3-year warranty expires 5/05.

Glad to see this, schuang74!!
Hope I can get my tomorrow.
Dell extends the 20% off offer to 7/8, so anyone, who wants it, can still be able to get in this deal.

I ordered on 6/20 with 2nd day shipping, received on 6/24 a drive without warranty according WD website.

Hmm, it seems that:
- those who received their drives early last week (I, included) got units without WD warranty,
- but those who received their orders later got units with 3 year warranty.

I am thinking about returning mine and and order another one. But is the trend true?

If you got on this deal, please post when you received the drive and whether your drive has WD warranty.

Thanks.

I already have an airborne express slip so i can send those puppies back if they arent under warranty

I still have gotten mine and I ordered it the first day with next day shipping. It still says in transit to local carrier even though the estimated arrival date was June 26.

EXACTLY the same thing happened to me!! :D I was disappointed at first, but after reading your post I noticed I had put at 8 instead of a 3 in the SN.

3 year warranty here on 1200JB for $150. :D

Thank you Anandtech-ers. I ordered this drive on Tuesday, with 2nd day for $151, and it arrived the next afternoon. And it has a full warranty. Thank you! Woo Hoo!
