<< mine says, "In transit to local carrier" when i click on tracking. What does this mean??? >>

It means they'll send it when they feel like it. I ordered last week (Tuesday March 19), still no drive :disgust:

I gonna have to give these bastards a call :|

got mine yesterday. Ended up having no warrenty from dell...luckly bought it through my blue so warrenty is doubled or wahtever from manf so some good there. But it is a WD Special Edition 120....did a sandra test and was better than a 7200 RPM 30 GB but a little worse than a 2x40 GB 7200 RPM in RAID 0.
Pretty nice deal though :) now to go about filling it up....

Oh and if you've already got your "not an invoice" notice...check the waybill number...add a 1Z infront of it....and that should be your ups tracking number :) I got that 2 days before i got my drive :/

I jumped in on this deal and received my hd yesterday. Now, I am truly regretting it. I looked at my warranty at the wd site and I have no warranty at all. From the begininng my wd1200jb and it is making loud clicks. From startup to shutdown it makes a click, and the worst ckicks come when windows accesses the wd1200jb. These clicks are LOUD compared to my other wd hd. Is this normal for the wd1200jb? Please post your experiences

Even though you have no WD warranty, you do get a 1 year warranty from dell, so all is not lost. Just get it replaced or refunded if you uncomfortable with a 1 year warranty.

Seeing so many people buying this Dell-branded HD, I don't understand why you didn't jump on the real WD HD that was for $179 shipped (and that includes my 6% tax as well)?

I got mine today, 3 year warranty. This drive is FAST. Compared to my 60 gig Maxtor, the WD boots up XP twice as fast.

When the UPS guy left a note, so I drove up the main street in my town, found him, and asked for my drive. This is the second time I've been able to track him down to get my package.

I have the two retail versions on a RAID 0. ~220GB after formatting (NTFS). Will add two more to the RAID so it'll end up with 440GB (almost 1/2 TB!!!). Performance is somewhat similar to a dual Cheetah setup I have striped through XP.

Btw I have yet to fill up more than 25% of the drives. Backing up the drives will be a b*tch.

<< Redblues, what a HUGE waste of money..... >>

Hardly. It went into my business' SQL server and we're in the process of migrating the databases from four older servers to this machine.

Tha RAID controller is an Adaptec 2400A.

Good news: Just got my hard drive (about damn time) :D
Bad news: No warranty. :|

This is what I get for trying to save money, I better take care of this baby or I'm screwed.
Anybody wanna recommend a good hard drive cooler for me to use with this drive ?

Hey what is the best way to format this baby? I am going to be installing Windows XP. Use WD software or just use Fdisk?

If your going to chop the drive into 35 gig partitions, use Fdisk. (Thank Fat32 for limitation.) If you want the whole drive on one partition just install XP, and it will allow you to create a NTFS partition on the entire drive. NTFS will offer you no compatability with W98/Dos and only read access under linux.
WD's software won't work if you use a promise card or raid controller (at least on KR7A-raid)
Been backordered till the April 15th.:disgust:
