I never really noticed the change. They still talk a mile a minute and Josh still beebops down the hall like he's King Tut.

Sorkin is gone and John Wells is running it now. It's definitely jumped the shark. The dialogue just isn't there anymore. It's still a decent show, but not as enjoyable anymore.

I just can't buy into the drivel that people are like that in the white house. It seems more a fantasy then reality.

the show sucks now. it's just running on fumes, and i'll be surprised if it coasts to the end of the year. i don't bother watching or even recording it anymore. iand f you can't tell the difference between pre and post sorkin west wing, then turn the channel because you're probably missing the bachelorette.

Perfectly said. When TWW was at its peak a few years ago there were moments so good they almost gave you goosebumps. Not to sound like a critic, but it truely was an example of what network TV can be at its best. Even before Sorkin left the show had started to slip, but it was still one of the better shows on TV. Now we have people aping Sorkin's style with uncomfortable walk-and-talks in the hallway that seem forced, rapid style dialogue that just doesn't sound right.

It seems almost impossible (for a variety of reasons) for any show to keep that magic for very long. Few shows are able to keep that magic that is the intersection of good writing & good acting. TWW had it, now it's moved on. For my money the best written show right now on network TV is Everwood, but as good as it is it's winning by default b/c there's nothing better out there. Gilmore Girls isn't as good as it used to be but it's still pretty damn good, 24 has its moments. Look at all the shows that had "it" in the past and have lost it: Law & Order, Alias (fvcked up by network execs), The Simpsons, Friends, etc. I never watched Buffy but I'm sure it had "it" for a season or two.

(I can't believe I'm agreeing with Ameesh on what makes quality TV after he endorsed Honey for two big reaons, and two reasons only)

it was sucking in the last seasons of sorkin anyways, so its no big difference.

and btw, one show that got "it" back is the practice:)

Gave up on the practice 2 or 3 years ago. About 1 minute into the ep I told the person watching with me "He's gay, the wife's the killer, that's going to be the BS surprise ending." I was right and quit watching after that. Same thing happened to L&O, instead of being about THE LAW it became about THE SURPRISE. They should changed the name to Law & Surprise.

The lack of good continuity is particularly noticeable. I saw some of the reruns of The West Wing on Bravo and was amazed that the MS storyline was begun as early as the first season (and lead right up to the cliffhanger in season two). Now, they pretty much gloss over things like a political assassination and a government shutdown.

At least I have my West Wing season 1 and Sports Night box sets.

The show is better now. The writing style has definitely changed, it's less rat-a-tat quips and more story-telling. The important thing is that it's climbed down from that extreme left-wing soapbox and gotten far less preachy. It was hard to take things seriously when every episode was the same tired old "Republicans are the devil, it's the do-gooders Dems who will save the day..." BS. It's still skewed pretty far to the left, but at least now there's an occasional flash of politcal reality when a greedy self-serving democrat pops up.

I don't think TWW has gone completely to crap. Yes the writing has fallen a notch, but the cast is still great. The cast basically carries the show now.

That's what happens when you let liberals run the country. No real sustenance, or staying power.

You must never have watched any of the shows with Ainsley.

Congratulations on being too myopic to see past your own political point of view to enjoy top-notch entertainment.

Im so tired of people blaming the departure of sorkin/schlamme for the shows decline in ratings. In all actuality, the show just cant go too much farther. What else is left? The dialogue is fine, the characters are the same its the story lines that suffer. No matter who writes it there isnt much left to write. At least there isnt much left to write that audiences would take interest in. Its been a few months into the new "era" of TWW and everyone wants to dump on it. Give it time, evaluate the season not just the episodes.

The show is not that old. By your logic, all shows should end within a couple of years.
