West vs McGovern

I like LtCol Allen West (FL-2/R). I think he has the potential to be a great national leader, however.....

Why does he insist on wearing his military badges? We know he was in the Army and was in combat, however, here's an interesting sidenote....

If you compare Allen West's combat record with that of, say, the Peace candidate, George McGovern, I wonder who would come out on top?

West was in the US Army from 1982 to 2004, 22 years and obtained the rank of LtCol. He was award the Bronze Star.

McGovern in in the US Army(Air Corps) from 1943 to 1945, just two years. He obtained the rank of 1st Lt. He was awarded three Distinguished Flying Crosses!

McGovern wins the "I've been there, done that" award.

Hey, Congressman West.....Knock off the "I was in the Army crap". We know. Concentrate on the job at hand.

For once I totally agree with a777pilot. Further as I recall McGovern (and George HW Bush) both had very courageous and distinguished careers in WWII, but neither (especially McGovern) made a big deal of it. I never even knew about McGovern's service until way after the election and I did volunteer work on his campaign.

I have a theory that type are the true heroes. I had an uncle who was a very successful farmer in one of the poorest areas of Ohio. I spent several summers as a teen working with him on his farm and I never knew he was in the service until his funeral that he served with as a front line infantry grunt from D-Day plus one through the Battle of Bulge.
