werid issues with OCZ ram...

so here's an odd duck:

just got a screaming new rig together,
Asus P6T SE MoBo
OCZ 1600Mhz 8-8-8-24 1.65v 3x Channel 6GB ram
Core i7 950
Rav01 case from silverstone
Silverstone DA1000 PSU

so, specs asside, i have the weridest issue. I boot, BIOS posts as normal, no errors, then states in BIOS settings "Usable Memory 2048" which I think as odd - clear bios, reseat chips, still bad - I'm thinking DOA chips - no big deal, 2GB is fine to start while waiting for an RMA. So I load up windows 7 64-bit, which confirms that yes, there is only 2GB seen in the system. Bummer but again, RMA... download CPUID to check which slots are not repoting...

CPUID reports that I have 6144MB of memory running at 1066mhz.

so I check the SPD section, and it reports are slots are showing OCZ 2GB chips in 1,2, and 3. This is after i also checked to make sure the Dimm configuration is right in the mainboard - which it is.

I even flashed the BIOS with the latest version thinking it may just not be compatible (also the updated bios did state "Improve memory compatibilty" so that got my hopes up...) but same issue.

I don't really know if it IS the ram at this point, and the mainboard won't take the memory in any of the other slots as in 3x channel.

can this STILL be bad chips..? Or is this a mainboard issue. any suggestions? I'm just baffeled here.

Funny thing is, i've seen countless people posting on countless forums with this issue or similar.

The common denominator: X58.

I'm starting to wonder about that chipset, as your issue seems to affect a ton of people.

Anyway, i'd say try the normal stuff:
Is is seated properly? You said yes, so this isn't your issue.
Make sure voltage/timings are set properly.
Run Memtest86+
How much RAM does it see?

From what i can tell from the other people out there posting with the same issue, it's usually either a bad module, or a bad mobo.

Or perhaps, a buggy chipset based on how frequently i see people with this problem...

I think it's a common issue with the P6T mobo's, as I've never had an issue with my x58 Asrock board.

resit your cpu.

if a pin is making bad contact, the X58 board will do that sometimes.

I'll try resitting the CPU - however I have had another issue were - oddly - the PC will crash, to the point in which it will not boot with video... I swap the memory around, or change the configuration (currently changed from triple channel to dual seems to make it behaive best... still lacking all memory connected.)

Resitting the CPU seems like a good idea... but is a major pain with this install as the heatsink is screwed onto the board UNDER the unit... so... that's possible, I'll check the board for bend pins - I'd imagine if there's an issue with the board it may simply be that the pins bend easily - will let you know if a resit will help.

thanks for the advice about resitting the CPU - it was a pain but as soon as we got the chip out we found about 2 or 3 pins that seemed a little out of place:
I guess the pins are very fragile on these P6T boards - but regardless now we're seeing all 6GB of memory and so far she's been flying right since!

thanks for all the advice.
