Were your parents tough on you?

bigrash

Lifer
Did they not let you do things other kids were allowed to? did they beat you up for misbehaving?

let's hear it

My parents smacked me around when it was necessary and looking back on it, they were right to do so.

No...I was never punished and generally was a good kid. I feel extremely successful and believe their moderation in parenting allowed me to have the perfect balance of individualism and guidance.

At the time, my parents were the meanest SOB's on Earth. lol

Now...I'm a parent...and one of the meanest SOB's on Earth... at least according to my son... lol

Spankings are given out for some offences, but "grounding" is effective now, so fewer spankings are administered. Which as I recall, is what happened with my parents... as we got older the punishment went from spankings to groundings etc.

There were things I wasn't allowed to do...but in retrospect it was probably for the better.

My mom beat my ass a couple of times - but I think I deserved it. After learning my lesson young, I respected her, and things were great growing up after that.

My parents were extremely liberal with what I was allowed to do growing up; however they also instilled early on how to be responsible with the freedoms I had. So any time I abused said freedoms, I got royally reprimanded. I would have to say they did a fine job.

They weren't tough on me until I got into some legal trouble. Then I was grounded for 2 years.

All in all, I wouldn't change the way I was parented or the things that I did. I'm a better person for learning some of those lessons for myself.

lol, I think your son and one of my sons could have a nice debate on who the meanest dad on Earth is.

I got away with a lot. There are a lot of stupid things I probably wouldn't have done if my father had been more strict, but I think I'm a better person for making the mistakes and learning from them.

yeap when i needed it.

i got spanked for doing something wrong. But the worst punishment i got was when i was brought home from the store by a cop for shop lifting =( they didnt spank me. they just really didnt talk or do much with me for a month. considering i have a good relationship with both my mom and dad it was kinda rough.

Yes...my parents were particularly tough on me. Did I hate it when I was younger...certainly at times. Seeing how I and my sibilings have turned out though...I think they did a pretty good job.

Growing up in a conservative Asian family, yeah, there was some strict parenting and I'm glad they did what they had to do to set my life straight.

Unfortunately my parents were pretty much clueless. There was much alcohol which fueled physical and mental abuses.

My parents never layed a hand on me, however they were very strict and expected certain things. I've had some bruisers of lectures but thats about it.

They had a different parenting style. They didn't put up with any bullsh!t, which is why I go crazy when I see little brats getting away with stupid sh!t.

They did a good job. I respect them now, even though I thought they were the worst things ever when I was younger.
