Were you public schooled, or homeschooled?

need a private school option.

But, I was given the government edumacation. Children will be going to private school.

I don't get why people bitch so much about the public school system. If you don't apply yourself, everything in life is gonna suck, period. Maybe I just go to a good school or something.

I was bored to death in public school. I read the syllabi for the private school we want to send our son to and wished I had gone to that one. Very challenging and interesting all the way from kindegarten to 12th grade. Plus, they never make the local news for a teacher molesting a kid, or kids getting into fights, or an administrator handing out a ridiculous punishment for something that should maybe require an afterschool detention.

Public schooled. I didn't like it, it was boring, and I was a crappy student, but my CAT tests and HSPT still placed me in the top 2% so I got to take special classes. So I think one's aptitude has more to do with the individual than the school they want to.

I guess there's been tracking for me since about 4th grade in all my schools, so the challenging aspect has never been a problem. This is why I disagree with non-tracking, because it ends up the way your experience did.

There are going to be fights at any school, and if there aren't then fvck it, I don't want my kid going there. That's just secluding them from the fact that people don't always get along. I'm not saying I condone fights, but when you start coming up with reasons like that, to me it's taking away real world experience. At least if they saw one of their friends get in a fight they might think "Hey, maybe this isn't who I wanna be hanging out with."

Our administrators are pretty good so no complaints here. Like I said, maybe I just got lucky.

Beware. I've seen stuff at private schools (even uber-conservative private religious schools) just as bad or worse than I've seen at public schools. Just because parents pay $10,000 a year for their kids to go to a school does not change the kids, and as you're probably aware administration is just about useless for governing kids.

I went to public school personally, had an okay time, but did great and ended up at a good college and am still doing well. I'm not completely discounting private schools, but just because it's private, or just because the syllabus sounds good, does not mean your kid will do any better or enjoy it any more than a public school.

went to public school and didnt have those problems...............mostly inner city schools ( like washington dc) drove past an overpriced snob school everyday😉

both public and private.

I was bored silly in public schools and by 6th grade, my boredom found an outlet in vandalism, so my parents sent me to an academically-challenging private (Jesuit) school.

5+ hours of homework/night = no time to be a JD.

I'm surprised that there are as many home schooled students here as it appears from this poll (of course, the results may be unusually skewed for various reasons, but still...). I have been homeschooled since 2nd grade, and will go to college this fall. I'm certainly not one of the wonder kids with perfect SAT, SAT II, and AP scores, and my resume does not include working for NASA at 16...

Sadly, though, my parents' reason for teaching me at home was to "protect" me from things that I'll probably wish I wasn't so "protected" from when I get to college this fall. This has lead to a situation where I get along much better most of the time with adults rather than kids, and I tend to loathe dealing with the average specimen of my own age. 😱 🙁

I was "public schooled" and raised by a public school teacher... I now teach public school and my children go to our neighborhood public schools.

However, I did at one point home school my children (I was teaching 3rd grade and 8th grade simultaneously, heh!). I did it because our neighborhood schools were critically overcrowded. It has been my experience that overcrowding is a big factor in reducing the quality of education.

By the way, my children are all considered 'academically gifted" as was I growing up. I'd homeschool again in a heartbeat if I felt it would be the better choice. It's a matter of being involved and aware.
