All of this fuss over what? 0.3% of the population? Here's another option, treat them as mentally insane, like they are, and be done with it.

That's only over a million people. I guess we should say to hell with autistic kids too? I mean, they aren't the majority.

Out of curiosity, and for a moment of humor, how long until the first transgendered person with male anatomy who identifies as a female, using the women's restroom demands that they install urinals in the womens room for people who identify as a woman but who still have man parts?

I couldn't care less who is in the bathroom I'm using, since the stall doors offer privacy. I cannot understand the morons who are worried about someone of the opposite gender and identifies as the morons gender, but are not worried about people of their own gender who identify as homosexual. Since homosexuals make up a larger percentage of the population, aren't you far more likely to be assaulted by one in a bathroom (yet it never/rarely occurs)? But, it seems bathrooms are built based on anatomy. Mens room: many urinals, few toilets. Women's room - no urinals many toilets.

Can't wait to see where this goes. IMO it all ends with holes in the floor like in China.

You wouldn't need urinals. Urinals exist because they take up less space and are easier to clean and quicker turnaround. You can use a toilet just fine.

oh man, this reminds me of a story. i have a friend who worked at home depot.

he walked into the men's bathroom one day and it stank. luckily he was just going to use it, he didn't have to clean it.

he opens the first stall door. the toilet seat is covered in crap. and it is smeared on the sides of the toilet bowl. and the flush valve handle. and the toilet paper roll. and both the sides of the stall. and the wall behind the toilet. and the stall door. and the floor.

he almost threw up, but peeked into the next stall because he really had to go. there was already crap on the outside of the stall door. the sicko had taken some crap over there and smeared it on the toilet seat and handle.

then said sicko went over to the sinks and smeared crap on all the handles. and on the paper towel dispenser.

my friend came pretty close to throwing up, but managed to hold it down and go tell the guy on cleaning duty. he explained what it was like and the cleaning guy just sighed and said, "... again?"

apparently this was not the first time some unknown sicko had done this to the bathroom at that home depot.

Same thing happened to a friend of mine who worked at a local service station. He literally went berserk knowing he'd have to clean up that putrid mess all while servicing cars that came in to fuel up (this was back in the early 70's when providing service station attendants was a common practice.)

Thereafter, restrooms were locked and only paying customers were allowed use by requesting the key for each one.

From my previously mentioned experience women's rooms tend to be messier. Guy just don't throw hand towels away. Women do the stand and hover thing which results in pee and crap on the seat/floor.
Ask your wife she'll agree.
Maybe that guy who invented the LED lights in the toilet, so you don't have to turn on the bathroom light in the middle of the night, can invent something portable so we don't have to rely on public bathrooms. Of course finding a place to use such an invention is another matter.

This would be a solution for you to finally have some friends to hang out with.

When you embrace unisex bathrooms, maybe some of the stupid in this thread will end, like LK's posts.

Why go the wrong and nonsensical way about it?

they really just need to redesign bathrooms to all be unisex.

make a fast room and a slow room... fast room = small room, nothing but urinals, sinks, and a changing table. slow room = large room with white noise pumped in, nothing but stalls, sinks, and a changing table.

The stupidity never ends... If you have something hanging, and the pee comes out of the thing that hangs, you use the mens room. If you dont, you use the ladies room. This is so goddam simple it is literally Idiocracy. Drink your Brawndo and waste your time talking about frickin restrooms.

You may order your nation as you wish, but I'd really hate for America to acknowledge that as a nation, we are no longer smart enough to even know our own sex.

Three very simple rules:
If you are living as a woman, use the ladies' room.
If you are living as a man, use the men's room.
If you do not know which gender you are, use the restroom at your psychiatrist's office and shut the hell up. Seriously, do not leave until you have figured this out.

It's a public restroom, not a shower; nobody is going to know your plumbing unless you insist on being a drama queen and insist that society make major structural changes to accommodate your pathology.

We need to return to "Stay the hell out of my psychosis."

Thanks.

Perhaps your license could dictate your designated bathroom. But some don't have licenses.

That's better than insisting on one's birth certificate, and I approve of requiring the level of commitment, but honestly, what's the point? We aren't talking school children in changing rooms & showers here, we're talking the general public. Why would we need to decide on what level of documentation is acceptable to get into a public restroom which absolutely positively has no one there to check one's ID?

Go in like you belong there and people will generally accept that you do. Beyond that, it's no one's business, and a trannie in a dress is much more disruptive (not to mention endangered) in the men's room as in the women's. As for female-to-male transgenders, I don't think I know a single male who would care whether the feminine-looking dude in the next stall REALLY has a penis. (And for those who do care, I respectfully suggest that the person in the next stall is the least of your problems.) Just pick a role and act accordingly.

Hell, I don't even care if someone selects a different gender each morning according to how he/she/it/ze feels each morning. Just dress and act appropriately. The only people that bug me are the drama queens who insist on making a federal case out of it. Select the restroom of your choice, just don't demand the right to pick whichever you wish.

The thing is, folks in the US seem to LOVE lawsuites and bickering over the law and how other people should behave.
You support someone using the bathroom that matches their appearance...but thousands of others will scream about it because of various reasons (and of course, think of the children).
I know that there's a big cultural difference between our views (Israel, despite having many religious folks, is very, very open and "no one cares, good for you" about it. most just do what you're suggesting) but I'm simply saying that unisex bathrooms can be a diffusing element on that issue.

Honestly most of the US doesn't care. Oddball topics like this come up every Presidential election. They exist to fire up a targeted set of voters. Even the few places that passed some bathroom bill don't expect them to stick & don't have any plan to enforce them.

We need Government to stay out of bedrooms and now bathrooms. Funny how it's real conservative guys who want to watch what's going on in both locations.
What is your position on job applications and competitive sports?

Should companies replace "male and female" with the full spectrum of identity, and how does that then relate to diversity and inclusion when you are dealing with a non binary kaleidoscope of identity?

Does a non binary person play on the men's or woman's soccer team, or can zhe switch at will?

Bathrooms are a convenient flagpole because they simply represent a binary world, and force the conversation of biology and anatomy versus identity.

I am ready to go full Starship Troopers

I had this discussion with my General Manager the other day. He showed me some Anti-Trans meme, and I asked him why does it bother you what someone else does? He used the same tired argument- " Would you want your daughter in the same bathroom"? I told him, I would not even know. A person using the Women's Bathroom is using a stall with a door. So unless they were standing to pee, which there is no reason to, if they identify as a women, one would never know. I then asked him if he wanted his son using a bathroom with a registered sex offender/child molester? They don't have signs around their necks, so how could you know? Seems like a more likely danger than someone identifying as opposite sex.

We're moving towards a 3-tiered bathroom situation, a Men's room, a Women's room, and an Anything-Goes room (which after the first week of press coverage will henceforth be known as the secondary Men's room).
I can't imagine what the symbol on the door for the anything goes room will look like!

Bathrooms are the lightning rod of a broader societal discussion.

My gym offers male hygiene items that cater to men in the men's locker room and vice versa. It is not inconceivable that a FtM transgender person will still biologically menstruate. We can't possibly accomodate every variation of identity and its respective biological needs.

The only reasonable solution is to knock down all the walls and have universal facilities.

Projection and displacement are useful defenses to avoid an argument hitting anywhere near close to home.
