We're going to need more bathrooms...

Army veteran Jamie Shupe, who identifies as neither male nor female, can legally be considered nonbinary, a judge ruled.

In what legal experts believe is Oregon's first such ruling, Judge Amy Holmes Hehn said Friday that the Portland resident's sex has been changed from female to nonbinary.

"It feels amazing to be free from a binary sex classification system that inadequately addressed who I really am, a system in which I felt confined," Shupe said.

PS: Just in case it isn't crystal clear, that's a joke. I don't actually believe we need segregated/regulated bathrooms due to issues such as these.

We're moving towards a 3-tiered bathroom situation, a Men's room, a Women's room, and an Anything-Goes room (which after the first week of press coverage will henceforth be known as the secondary Men's room).

We need Government to stay out of bedrooms and now bathrooms. Funny how it's real conservative guys who want to watch what's going on in both locations.

Agreed. The whole purpose of these bills isn't due to some crisis of people being pervy in bathrooms - it is to open up another front in the culture war before November. Bathroom use is in nearly every case an honor system. Nobody was out policing bathrooms. Those causing problems before any of these laws were reported using the "peeping tom", or worse sexual assault laws from decades ago. It...just wasn't statistically enough of a problem to justify further regulation. The GOP has no business passing these kinds of laws unless a) it solves an actual problem or b) they pay for some new way to monitor or enforce compliance - neither of which will be happening.

This whole issue of bathroom use has me confused. I wholeheartedly disagree with legislation such as NC's HB2, but at the same time I'm not sure I really support the Charlotte city ordinance that inspired passage of HB2.

What would be the most common-sense policy, to me, is that anything happening in a bathroom is a private matter. Since most bathrooms are designed for either Men or Women, I think I personally would be comfortable with transgender/nonbinary people using whichever option they prefer. Basically, this to me means the best policy right now is "don't ask/don't tell". I don't want government telling businesses how to design their bathrooms, or whom to allow (how do you police that?)

Oh yes, the whole male/female thing can really confine a person like a prison. Sounds more like confinement "it" had was whatever limits it mentally set for itself. If someone wants to use the opposite sex's bathroom, tell any complainers to call the police about it then, don't be scared.

All of this fuss over what? 0.3% of the population? Here's another option, treat them as mentally insane, like they are, and be done with it.

Check out a new Walmart, MENS, WOMENS and a multi sex with a baby changing table. Which gets used a lot when one of the others is getting cleaned of the shit and piss left by the pigs that don't know how to use a restroom.

I am pretty sure the same logic could be used against certain individuals here as well... not giving names of course.

oh man, this reminds me of a story. i have a friend who worked at home depot.

he walked into the men's bathroom one day and it stank. luckily he was just going to use it, he didn't have to clean it.

he opens the first stall door. the toilet seat is covered in crap. and it is smeared on the sides of the toilet bowl. and the flush valve handle. and the toilet paper roll. and both the sides of the stall. and the wall behind the toilet. and the stall door. and the floor.

he almost threw up, but peeked into the next stall because he really had to go. there was already crap on the outside of the stall door. the sicko had taken some crap over there and smeared it on the toilet seat and handle.

then said sicko went over to the sinks and smeared crap on all the handles. and on the paper towel dispenser.

my friend came pretty close to throwing up, but managed to hold it down and go tell the guy on cleaning duty. he explained what it was like and the cleaning guy just sighed and said, "... again?"

apparently this was not the first time some unknown sicko had done this to the bathroom at that home depot.

Family or baby changing private bathrooms have been in my area since early to mid 90s. Not a state requirement but many places have them.

A wireless store I managed had a line of crap from the top rim of the toilet tank up the wall and ended about a foot from the ceiling. Last time I ever allowed anyone but a pregnant woman use the restroom. I still can't figure out how an ass could explode like that it was a nearly straight line.

I doubt it's that many, though I know almost nothing about it. I think the answer is to simply make public bathrooms a little more private.

Out of curiosity, and for a moment of humor, how long until the first transgendered person with male anatomy who identifies as a female, using the women's restroom demands that they install urinals in the womens room for people who identify as a woman but who still have man parts?

I couldn't care less who is in the bathroom I'm using, since the stall doors offer privacy. I cannot understand the morons who are worried about someone of the opposite gender and identifies as the morons gender, but are not worried about people of their own gender who identify as homosexual. Since homosexuals make up a larger percentage of the population, aren't you far more likely to be assaulted by one in a bathroom (yet it never/rarely occurs)? But, it seems bathrooms are built based on anatomy. Mens room: many urinals, few toilets. Women's room - no urinals many toilets.

I think it will soon end up with a uni-sex bathroom. Not familiar with the term multi-sex, but I can foresee a 4th and then 5th bathroom and so on, being demanded. I pity women at that point. The perv issue aside for a minute, some guys just pee on all over the toilet, seat up or down, and on the floor. If I find it disgusting, I can only imagine what the majority of women will think. A lot of it stems from guys being so fat... err obese, they can't see junior and have no clue where their stream is going.

An interesting bit of American history:

"The first regulation requiring separate toilet facilities for men and women was passed in 1887, when Massachusetts required the establishment of separate privies in businesses. “Wherever male and female persons are employed in the same factory or workshop, a significant number of separate and distinct water-closets, earth-closets, or privies shall be provided for the use of each sex and should be plainly designated,” the law reads. In the next line, mixed use of such facilities is prohibited. Over the course of the next three decades, nearly every state passed its own version of that law."

From my previously mentioned experience women's rooms tend to be messier. Guy just don't throw hand towels away. Women do the stand and hover thing which results in pee and crap on the seat/floor.
Ask your wife she'll agree.
