"We're getting ready to do something else with Oblivion this year"

I guess it means they'll do more of those Fallout 3 nugget sized DLC but this time for Oblivion. I want a brand new Elder Scrolls please.

If that means actually making the game stable so I can play it under pure vanilla settings without a crash each hour then I will certainly re-install it. If that means a sequel and they're about to announce it then the only thing I'll look for in that announcement is the name of the engine they've chosen to develop it.

I had zero stability issues. I'm willing to bet it's your overclocked PC.

I played Oblivion for at least 60 hours and never had a crash even on my overclocked PC. 😉

It could be caused by excessive overclocking, bad drivers, virus/spyware interference, Windows errors, or user error...

I have played the game on 5 different overclocked CPU/GPU configs but still have had zero stability issues so far.

EDIT: Also I have finished the game twice, once vanilla and once with mods. (over 200hrs IMO)

This makes no sense - unless they're planning to release a specialized repackaged GOTY edition with new bells and whistles...

"To clarify, we don?t have any plans for new content for Oblivion, but like Pete said, there are some plans to do something with Oblivion. When I have more information, I?ll share it with you guys"

OH an have to agree with others about crashes - no crashes here after numerous hours of gameplay - I'm still poking around Shivering Isles [reminds me a bit of Myst....]

Yea your probably right. I usually can only play Sacred 2 for 40-60 minutes before I get a crash with my overclock in sig. I actually noticed it at 3ghz so I thought I might as well go all the way.

Of course, overclocking only gets angry at particular games, usually the ones that a lot of people say are buggy and crash a lot. I think that is overclocking's way of punishing us for wanting more than what we have. Reminds me, I need to massage my hsf with MX-2 as tonight's sacraficial offering, I tried AS3 last time and even windows started to blue screen on me. I hope my overclock is pleased.. I can't afford to keep buying tubes of TIM.

Same here. My computer is OC'd, but I might have crashed maybe two or five times in over 80 hours of me playing Oblivion. And even that was caused by excessive modding. I don't know why so many people complain about Oblivion and Fallout 3 crashing... These games DO NOT crash, as long as people take care of their computers.

My friend, who's internet connection is much faster than mine, and who's computer is around two times as powerful as mine in just about every way constantly comments on how "amazing" it is that every time we play multiplayer in CoH, I load fully before he even gets to a quarter of his bar.... Noting "amazing" here I always say. It's just that I take care of my PC.

You think I only played it under over-clocked settings. It's because of my signature? You just assumed that because my signature mentions my PC is over-clocked that I only use it under those settings, but you're wrong. You'd think that I would have done everything in my power and from the help of dozens of players and actual Bethesda tech support guys to make the damn thing stable including fresh OS installations without even accessing the Internet (with patches and so on already on back-up hard-drives) and countless other tries.

Believe me, I've tried everything, obviously including leaving everything at stock speeds (and stock/auto settings in the BIOS), which was one of the first things I did. Nothing worked, and it's the same story with Fallout 3. The Gamebryo engine is simply too sensible to specific hardware configurations, some play it stable, others don't, it's that simple and there's nothing else to look for, just go take a look at the official Bethesda forums. And, also, Oblivion and Fallout 3 both had (and still have to this day) crashing and freezing issues on the Consoles versions, which all have the same hardware and are all configured the same way using the same software and whatnots.

For me and many others the Bethesda games while being good on their own have always been very unstable whatever the user tries to make it work while all of his/her other games work flawlessly (which is my case). For others it simply works well, which is good for them. I just won't force myself to play a game when I can't in fact really play, I simply un-install it and forget about it, and that's a decision which goes against my heart, because believe me I love Oblivion and I really like Fallout 3, I just can't play them more than an hour because it either freezes or crashes, or both.

they ought put Oblivion into a MP world
:Q

it is the MOST stable game i every played
- 1,250 hours right to Level 94 [without cheating or using the console]

The last thing we need is another MMORPG to add to the dozens already out there.

I hope Bethesda keeps making good solo RPG games which are rare these days.

I crash, but only when using transparency in Vista while running a GPU2 F@H client. Disabling transparency seems to have fixed that problem for some odd reason.

I'd like it if people could fight each other online in the Arena, but otherwise IMO Elder Scrolls should stay single player. I can imagine it right now, walking through the pristine forests, seeing the deer run by, and seeing this at the bottom of the screen:

"FULL DAEDRIC SETS FOR AEGIS!!!!111"
"WTB UMBRA!!!!!1!!!!"

I'm pretty sure the games just crash for no reason at all. When I first got Fallout 3, I could play the game all day and it wouldn't crash. I added a ton of mods and screwed with settings and even then it was solid as a rock. I made literally no changes to my system, and suddenly the game would crash every 20 minutes or so. I still haven't changed anything in this system and now the game works fine again. It hasn't crashed a single time in the past week, and I've put at least 15 hours into it.

-My system is not overclocked
-ffdshow has the fallout exception
-I have not updated any of my drivers since at January
-I have not added or removed any hardware from this computer

It's random. There is absolutely nothing you can do to stop the game from crashing. I hope their next game doesn't have this problem.

I played something like 250-300+ hours of Oblivion without any instability issues.

Keep in mind I am not a WoW player, but in my opinion the only thing missing from Oblivion is the lack of interaction with other players. I would like them to have some sort of MP in the next one. I would like to share my adventures with others. You know what else would be cool as well, a defend the castle from invasion mode. If waves of enemy troops were sent and you and your small band of soldiers had to defend the keep. Epic.

it nothing to do with the Gamebryo engine which is solid as heck

you modded he HELL out of it and you are complaining?

i put twelve HUNDRED hours [1,200] into Oblivion and it was the most stable game i ever played

You also say 'no changes'
- do you not update your graphics card drivers? 😛
:Q

Some kind of *interaction* .. to take your high-level character into a MMORPG or Lan interaction .. would be about all they could do do to make it "perfect"

Bethseda games have always been buggy as hell. I personally consider Oblivion a vast improvement over previous offerings. Morrowind had tons of loading problems and random crashes, and don't even get me started on daggerfall.

Hopefully this time they can afford to hire more than 2 fucking people to do the voice work for like a thousand characters. I don't expect every single NPC to have their own unique voice. But Oblivion with 2 voices for the entire cast of characters killed it for me. I don't see how anyone got past that. Also didn't like the fact there was no sense of urgency, even though these so called oblivion Gates were going to be the end of the world if not dealt with ASAP. You didn't have to even bother with them until you wanted to, that's not how saving the world would go. I understand side quests add to the length of a game. But I found it impossible to care about the gates when I could stroll around at my own pace, helping old ladies find out what was killing her pet rats, and other totally unimportant "quests" If the world is coming to an end, I would think dealing with that would be priority #1. Without worrying about the world ending, it seemed more like a "do whatever the shit you want game" And saving the world was just an after thought.

The voice acting is what totally ruined it for me though.
