I used to write checks for my Cable and Phone/DSL bills until I found out I could pay via ATM/Credit Card over the phone. Now the only checks I write are for my rent, because my landlady only takes checks.
I bet you will be hard pressed to find a bank that is going to re-visit their check holding policies and schedules. They are still going to hold your funds for the same amount of time that they do now.

Perhaps. I think it will depend on the bank and your standing with your bank. I have WAMU and they always credit checks deposited to my account same day. OTOH, I have noticed that BofA will take up to 10 days to post a payroll check, which is one reason I closed my accounts with them years ago.
