Went to OB/GYN for baby check up and recorded the

lokiju

Lifer
Has anyone ever run into that issue with using one of those set top dvd players/recorders?

I stopped the recording process and it said "writing" and got to 100% and I played it in the recorder afterward and was able to view the video without issue.

But now when I put the DVD into a computer it acts like nothing is on the disc.

WTF?

It was the first time seeing my sons face 🙁

EDIT:

OMG YES! ISObuster did the trick!

Thanks skace!

Maybe they use some kind of crappy program to view it.

No clue, it was recorded use a recorder at the OB/GYN office that I don't have access to now.

Did you grab the right disk or took a blank one by accident?

I'm hope you're being sarcastic, but just in case....

Yes.

It's a single disc DVD recorder that I use my own personal blank DVD-R in...

I wonder if it has some weird multi-session setup, if the DVD has multiple sessions (for re-writing) and your machine only reads 1 session it could possibly see it as blank. Do you have any actual DVD writing software that you could view the DVD in?

I tried it using infrarecorder but it just sees it as a blank DVD.

I should note that I can visibly see the area of the DVD-r that was written to.

This doesnt surprise me. The medical industry's software providers dont seem to be consumer friendly. A few years ago I went for a bone density test and the results were recorded to CD. After putting the CD in several different computers, I couldnt get it to display at all. First it would try to install some sort of proprietary software viewer then you were supposed to be able to view the records. The software did install, but it never worked properly and displayed no records. I finally just gave up and threw it away.

edit: Have you considered that your DVD was written for a MAC and not a PC? :light:

That explains why hospital bills are so huge... they buy macs. :Q

I know with my dad's DVD video recorder. You need to "close" the disc before it can be read by regular players. The recorder itself can read it and add to it. After it's closed, I don't think more can be added.

I remember having to jump through some kind of hoops to extract the video from the DVD we got at Worlds of Fun (of us on the Rip Cord)... can't recall exactly what, though.

Every DVD recording set-top box that I've worked with has been like this as well. Chances are you never closed the disc and need to do so before it can be read.

Yeah, that means you didn't close/finalize it, so the data was there, but nothing else could read it 😛

congrats on your son... you will have plenty more trips to see... was it a 3D sonogram? We got a nice sonogram pic of one of our twins playing with his package and sucking his thumb at the same time. At least that's what it looks like. 😀
