Went to Mexican Taco Truck (w/ pics)

We've got Taco trucks all over Austin in the parts where Mexican people live. I've always meant to stop by at one, but I never have..

Yes. Fancy food trucks can be quite expensive, but the one I go to for Korean burritos are $6.50 - $7. It's a little more than your $4.95 burrito or whatever, but it's much better. Still not too expensive. The Bao truck I hit up is $6.75.

I've had the roach coach plenty of times at work. It's disgusting and sure my $5 rice bowl can turn into 2 meals if I want, but it's so disgusting I end up tossing it most of the time.

Also the fancy food trucks are actually damn good. I'm tired of the Korean burritos, but the other products are still damn good. The lobster roll truck especially has killer food. The Cajun food truck has insanely good pasta too.

At UCLA there are 2 food trucks on campus everyday and they rotate through. I tried all of those Korean burritos and I think they're horrible. Talk about drowning food in salt/soy sauce. All of the other trucks are more expensive versions of the mom/pop restaurants. Even the Nom Nom truck that was supposedly so amazing doesnt hold a candle to the Vietnamese sandwich spots here in Little Saigon. I havent had any Mexican food from the trucks yet, but Im lucky I live in a neighborhood where there are tons of good taquerias.

And the "street tacos" are great.

However...you do need to know a smattering of Spanish to eat at the taco trucks...otherwise, you just don't know what you're gonna get. 😛

Although most of the signs and menus are in Spanish, the workers usually still speak English. I think they purposely have the person who operates the window speak English.

Al pastor on a spit

50-80 pounds of sliced marinated pork, prepared on a vertical spit (like a gyro). Traditionally there is a pineapple on top which tenderizes the meat while it rotates.
never saw such a thing. it's huge. while it probably tastes awesome, it looks rather disgusting sitting there.
