Went to Mexican Taco Truck (w/ pics)

For real, this stuff is worth the hassle and the drive. You do have to get out of your car, park, stand in line in the heat for about 10 minutes, and usually I'm the only English speaking person there, but man this stuff is worth it.

Anyone else been to a Taco Truck? I'll take pics of the truck itself next time.

They're everywhere around here...Real "Roach Coaches," bringing salmonella to a neighborhood near you.

(but dammit! The food is USUALLY pretty good.)

got lots of them around az. especially in smaller towns, usually darn good food. even tho primitive as a restaurant goes most seem to be sufficiently sanitary.
there are 2 in my town that i hit at least once a week.

you're up norcal, you guys have two foot burritos galore from taco trucks. Not fair. :colbert:

And the "street tacos" are great.

However...you do need to know a smattering of Spanish to eat at the taco trucks...otherwise, you just don't know what you're gonna get. 😛

Real tough to order - tres tacos por favor - al pastor, cessos, y lengua. $3.75 - $4.50.

And most of these folks running the trucks do speak english. Watonsville, Salinas, Los Banos, and Madera have the best Mexican food.

I don't touch the burritos anymore as they are an after lunch coma for 3-4hrs based on the massive amount of carbs in the beans, rice, and tortilla.

There is a great taco truck I go to. I always get the Tacos al Corbon. They are small, two fresh made corn tortilla's with minced asada, onion, and cilantro served w/ a lime wedge. Very simple but oh, so good and they are $1.25 each. 3 or 4 of those and you are good to go.

In my area, there were a ton of these taco trucks that seemingly popped up overnight. After a little while, the health dept did inspections on all of them. So the ones that are left all are seemingly fit enough to serve food. Cops, Microsofties, everyone goes there.

OK, see? You know enough Spanglish to know that Lengua is tongue, cesos is beef brains, al pastor is a form of pork...and cabeza is "head meat."

Al pastor is good...I don't eat brains or tongue...or guts. (tripe)

i've hit up 5 taco trucks in 1 night and 10 taco trucks over 2 days.

Uhhh... go to the GOOD trucks

that's what I follow

fancy trucks are wack. I want to get a whole meal for $6. That's 5 al pastor tacos and a mexican coke.

Most fancy trucks that are currently entering the market are only there for the money, and not to deliver a killer food product.

Agreed - was heading over to the lake with a coworker for a mid-day walk in Downtown Oakland and some cupcake truck was selling gourmet cupcakes for $3 - 3 bucks for a damn tiny cupcake - gimme a fuckin break.

Street food in NYC is where its at. $6 for a meal of "street meat" rice, and salad!

Yes. Fancy food trucks can be quite expensive, but the one I go to for Korean burritos are $6.50 - $7. It's a little more than your $4.95 burrito or whatever, but it's much better. Still not too expensive. The Bao truck I hit up is $6.75.

I've had the roach coach plenty of times at work. It's disgusting and sure my $5 rice bowl can turn into 2 meals if I want, but it's so disgusting I end up tossing it most of the time.

Also the fancy food trucks are actually damn good. I'm tired of the Korean burritos, but the other products are still damn good. The lobster roll truck especially has killer food. The Cajun food truck has insanely good pasta too.

what is that thing? 😕

I live in a city that seems majority Mexican, and we have all kinds of Mexican food from trucks to Taquerias (and things like a Bolivian restaurant with Papusas IIRC).

I guess I take it for granted, it's good, but people rave about this Mexican food for some reason, like in this thread.

One good place down the street looks like a crappy hole in the wall, but I was going to get a 'Happy Burrito' today and passed it up because it has lines like this:
