Do yourself a favor; make an appt with an Orthopedist. Almost-Docs are looking out for themselves and won't tell you the truth about anything.

You need:

Right now = opiate pain killers (he'll never prescribe those b/c they're opiates)
Tomorrow = a REAL qualified doc to assess you for possible surgery and/or rehabilitation/exericse.

Unfortunately I dont know how I can see a real Doctor. It is just the campus health center (Virginia Tech).

I called my Mom and she made an appt with an Orthopedist for Oct 5 (Which is when i come back home). Do you guys think that i should make an effort to see one earlier, or do you think i should take the bus (or have my friend drive me) to the hospital tonight and let them run tests or something?

Locking, clicking, and popping? Sounds like youve got a torn meniscus, have an orthopedic surgeon take a look at it to determine whther it can be rehabbed with physicla therapy or if it needs surgery.

Sometimes stretching and muscle strengthening can realign muscles and bones into a more anatomic alignment, but usually only in cases of chronic pain, not acute trauma.

I asked about the torn meniscus and he said it is usually accompanied by pain on either side of the knee cap...i dont have that. But then again it is kind of swollen.

Well i have a few options.

I can get a ride to the hospital tonight and they can run tests on me.
I can wait until October 5 (taking the medicine and doing the exercises) and see an orthopedist then.
I can sit here and do nothing.

If you guys think that the practitioner took an easy way out, and that i should go to the hospital tonight by all means let me know. I know you aren't doctors, but i value you guys opinion on this matter.

I'd go to the hospital. Hell, I can even give you a ride if you want... Do you have health insurance through your parents? If it's not going to cost you anything except some time on a Friday night, why not?

edit: and in case you didn't notice, Schiffert sucks. i don't even bother going unless i need some free cold medicine.

Pain on either side of the kneecap is patellofemoral pain (i.e. from the patella or knee cap hitting the femur), pain along the joint line is meniscal pain.

Thank you so much.

Well, my Mom wants me to wait a couple days to see if MAYBE this stretching thing will work. She said if not and if it starts hurting than go to the hospital. I figure i can respect her wished there, that isn't too much to ask.

BUt it is going to be a pain in the ass going to the football game tomorrow. Especially in the student section standing up! I might have to sit down lol (Thats like a sin in that section).

I have health insurance through my parents though (BLue Cross BLue Shield) so ill try this for a couple days, but after that i may take you up on that offer.

Thanks again for everything you guys have said so far!

Well it isn't on either side of the knee cap. It is under the knee cap.

Went back to the doctors. On tuesday my knee was hurting extremely badly. So he asked me how it is going, and i told him that i was in pain. And i told him i needed an MRI and XRAY done for the orthopedist. He was a little suprised about the MRI but they got both scheduled and i had the XRAY today. I also got a Narcotic Pain medication and crutches.

Orthopedist is on Oct. 9

This has happened to me before. I have irregularly shaped miniscii and because of this they're pretty beaten up, occasionally if I flex my knee incorrectly the cartilege will fold and lock my joint, ususally it unkinks itself in a couple of hours and I can flex my knee again. I have had arthroscopic surgery once because of it though.

I am careful to think about how I'm flexing my knees now, so it hasn't happened in years... Eventually I'll get them replaced, my last orthopedist said probably around 40 or so... geez, that's only nine years... meh.. no biggie, I'll be stronger, better, and faster!

Ok im in college and obviously, being a guy, is out hanging out with friends and stuff (As in girls). I want to stay working out as much as possible since I cant run everyday. Do you guys think it would be a bad idea to do upper body exercises while i wait for the diagnosis on my knees?

If whatever exercise you decide to do hurts your knee then simply quit doing it.
