Hey that's pretty good for your first time. I can usually group well up to 30 yds. with my XD 9mm but anything further than that I'm a horrible shot.

I didn't count, but that doesn't look like 200 holes in the targets...:Q
You should start with a closer target, 10 yards or so, put them all in the black, then go further back

ever heard of Front Sight? Highly recommended... Text

Thanks, some of the guys I talked to at the range said I had a very good grip (and my hands were very stable). By the way, I am guessing 30% of my shots missed the target at 25% yards and about 60% at 50 yards...

Not bad - but like the last guy said, better to practice at 7 and 10 yards to start. That's really where most pistols are designed to be effective. You can't improve if you can't see where your rounds are going.

you should practice on people so you can see the blood splatter if you hit them. :p

How do you like the XD9? I was thinking about a G17, but I've heard good things about the XD9 too.

I actually tried a Springfield XD40 40 S&W too but didn't like it as much as the Taurus... Taurus had an awesome grip.... it fit in my hand perfectly.

I also tried a Springfield 1911-A1 Mil-Spec S.S. .45auto, Glock 21 .45auto, and Springfield XD9 9mm...still liked the Taurus most though... 1911 was a close one...

We used to test a .50 cal at the shooting range in Jefferson National Forest up 460. .50 cal makes mincemeat of a McMaster Carr catalog. ;)

It would be pretty cool if they made shooting dummies that spattered blood when you hit them. Probably expensive though.

I'm really happy with my XD. It's a great pistol and shoots very well. I really haven't shot a wide variety of pistols so I really can't compare it but it's been trouble free (through 800 rounds) and requires little maintenance. Ideal for for a handgun noob like I was.
Here's a pic of mine: 4" Service Model in Stainless Steel (Bi-tone). hs2000talk.com has a wealth of info on the XD, lots of XD owners there.

Not to mention the anti's would go absolutely ape-$hit. Christ. Some ranges won't even let you use silloutte targets anymore. :(

How much does it cost to go to a shooting range, generally? I went to a shooting range once in Cambodia, and was thinking of picking up a firearm for hobby shooting.

yea well if you've never fired something like that you'll find its not much fun if you're a skinny person b/c im pretty skinny and any large calibur rifle hurts / bruises my shoulder after a few shots...(and i am holding it properly)

and yes pistols are fun...i love my friend's colt 1911 .45
that is sooooooOOOooo much fun...though it needs to be resighted b/c i have to aim down and to the left by like 3-4 ft at 50yrds to hit a target right

Bring your targets in...If your target is at 50 yds then just run.If he is at 7 thats a different story.

Anyone ever used one of these things?
http://www.lasergrips.com

I happened to flip channels to the "Ourdoor" channel and they had a concealed gun usage class thing on TV that was neat. Saw a commercial for the Laser Grips too.

I'm an old school shooter... use the 3 dots or V.. so I am not too interested in laser sights personally. But then again, I only use my pistols for range shooting, not life protection.

My range that I am a member of costs $20 for guests. That includes full range privilages (outdoor rifle, outdoor pistol, outdoor shot, indoor pistol and .22). It also give you insurance coverage for while you're there, but does not include any firearm use nor are any available. You bring your own.
