Went RootBeer tasting; I love RootBeer.

Just got back from the Wisconsin Dells and went to the Rootbeer tasting place there - I also brought some back because it's the best soda ever. There I tried 1919, Sprechers, and one that had to do with an Indian... The ones I bought are all glass bottles; will try from bottle and poured in a glass.

Today I'm having Stewards Original Fountain Classic.

Seems to be a darker brew and leaves more of the normal rootbeery aftertaste than others I have had. It's not very frothy, which is disappointing. This one unfortunately is made with HFCS, so it doesn't taste naturally sweet, which I figured and is why I'm drinking it first.

My neighbors had some Belgian foreign exchange students and when I gave them some root beer, they said it was one of the worse things they've ever tasted. I love me some good root beer though.

We stopped at a place in southern Ohio called The Rootbeer Stand. They make their own, and it is very unique. Has a cinnamon, maple, molasses finish to it that is very unique. Not bad at all.

The best mass produced I think is IBC.

Jones Soda Root Beer is a very good mass produced one; I would have grabbed one there but I can go to the grocery store and get it.

Tasty root beer float.

I often make my own birch beer with concentrate and half honey plus half sugar. You add a pinch of yeast and it self carbonates in about 5 days. The only catch is after you bottle it, you've only got about 10 days in the fridge before bottles start to explode. 😀

I love root beer too! Once I came across this handcrafted version. It came in a can with some dark brown and orange colors and it was delicious. I love pouring it in a tall chilled beer mug. I think the microbrewery was run by these two friends named Allen & Wright. If you guys ever get a chance, try it ... that is - IF YOU CAN FIND IT!!!

Was this in northern Cincinnati (linkage: http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-root-beer-stand-cincinnati)

I'm going to have to try this soon.

Call me lazy but I enjoy A&W quite a bit. Culver's also has some tasty rootbeer.

I love the A&W tap that you get from their locations! I haven't found anything else quite as sweet and creamy on the shelves.

Since the OP is an expert, how come the cans of A&W Root Beer doesn't seem to taste as good as the fountain drinks in the restaurant?

Also, what is your opinion on Dr. Pepper?

I like to get away from Coke every once in a while.

I love root beer too. I have a huge collection of over a decade waiting for a taste test.

- A&W draft is up there as one of the best tasting. Why better than canned? The store insists that they make it fresh with sugar.

- Henry Weinhart's best soda is the orange cream - it's amazing, one of the best sodas.

- One not to miss is Virgil's. It's too unusual for a 'main' root beer - strong things like nutmeg - but it's a classic. For bonus, find the collector's version.

- Anyone remember Hires, used to be a top root beer? Only place I know you can get it is in Salt Lake City.

- A really great root beer is at BJ's Brewhouse. Also cream soda and cherry.

yeah I tried root beer once on a schooltrip to the US, that shit was gross.

their cream soda sucks, but the root beer is godly. I'm actually not a fan of Virgil's, a little too much licorice taste for me (still drink it though)

Dr. Pepper has been phasing Hires out. Seems from this article that it could soon be extinct.
