Its been 6 - 7 years since my last child support review, and for some reason the attorney generals office wanted to do a review.
So I am sitting in this court room with probably 100 people in there. The court starts calling names, half the people on the list are not there. At 10:00am a bench warrant is issued for everyone that has not showed up.
Some of the people owed anywhere from $7,000 - $104,000 in back child support. Several people owing in the $20,000 - $25,000 range were put on 10 years probation instead of sending them to jail.
The guy that owed the $104,000, I guess his mom came up there to talk to the judge. She was saying "I do not understand how he can owe this much." The judge told her something like "he has not paid anything in years, and the last time we looked at his case he owed around $75,000. Plus, the account draws 6% interest."
My child support went up about $100 for the next 8 months, which is when my son turns 18. When he turns 18 support goes back down to what it was has been.
There were several cases where people owed $10,000 - $15,000 back support, have not worked in 6 or 8 months. In some cases their were people that had not worked in almost a year. The men were living with their girlfriends, letting the woman pay all the bills, and not paying a single thing to support their children.
I just do not understand how some of those people can live with themselves knowing they are doing nothing to support their children.
