<< You should ask yourself if all that ugly plastic will hold up over time. My guess is...it won't. >>

Ugly or not, I'll bet it'll last a while. Ever seen plastic rust? Go check out some old Grand Cherekees.

I'm glad you like it.

A friend of mine has one (2500, and that sucka is BIIIIIIIIIIIG), and gave me a ride in it. Although I don't care for all of the plastic, the truck itself was AMAZING. Don't let the car zealots around here sway your opinion either, if you like it, go for it. After all, you are the one who is going to be driving it. 🙂

I have been wanting this truck ever since I saw an ad for it a year ago! I think I'm gonna have to go test drive this baby at my local dealer soon!

Oh yeah baby... I got my Avalanche on October 22nd last year, and have loved it every single day! She is big, she is bad, and she is beautiful!

Regarding the plastic around the bottom, last week we had a HUGE ice storm up near Detroit, and I had to drive OVER alot of tree branches. I heard a heck of alot of banging and scraping from the tree branches... Got home, and not a mark on her. I'm glad that wasn't painted sheet metal!!!

We are going camping in July, can't wait to have some fun out in the woods!

EXACTLY.

isn't the kevlar or something like that? nice stuff. it's not gonna come off. 🙂

<< I really miss the point of taking the whole vehicle apart to carry longer items, why not just let it hang out the back and buy some rope for $5? >>

How about when you need security and water-proof?
>>

I dont understand.

An SUV provides waterproof and security, thats why I bought mine. A pickup offers no security or waterproof, with the exception of the cab area, and if you have your Avalanche opened up to carry longer items, you cant park anywhere since now the whole interior of your truck is open to thieves, or at least thats how I understand they are constructed.

In my Expedition, I can carry 10' items, and most everything I need, and keep it locked up, and away from prying eyes. I cant begin to tell you how much stuff ended up missing out of the back of my pick-up when I used to drive one. If I stopped anywhere and there was anyting valuable in the back, you have to move it up front, its a huge hassle. In my Suburban, I could carry 12' stuff inside and out of the weather.

Well most 10 foot long items aren't very tall. So you leave the back window in, and just drop the back seat. Leaving the truck sealed to the outside. It's like magic.

Quite simple.

That's just it. You just summarized the functionality of the Avalanche. It functions like a SUV normally, security and waterproof and seating for 6. Then, when you need it, it converts to a pickup, with the same disadvantage of exposing to the element.

I'm sure your Expedition fills most of your needs, but think about this: what if you need to haul some tall objects, like appliances or furnitures that exceed the roofline of your SUV? Don't you wish sometimes you have a full-size pickup. Well, this is where Avalanche comes in.

Truthfully, the same can be accomplished with a crewcab pickup with a bed cover, but I like the ride of the Avalanche better, and as I said before, I like the styling. YMMV. 🙂

<< go for the 2500 with the 8.0L V8 if you want to roll with the big dogs 🙂 >>

Not only that but if your at all mechanically inclined slap a set of the Generation IV heads from GM on that 496 and toss these other lamers aside who rank on that vehicle and know nothing about whats under the hood. 🙂

The heads will bump you to the 400HP range and close to 500lbs of torque... who can suck that down 🙂 thats almost as much as me but it's also N/A too 🙂

BTW the Vortech Supercharger kit is just over $3000 now for the 5.3 for anyone who wants to join the sleeper clan of trucks 😉

I forget that the Avalanche has a bed cover 😱 I continually think of it as just a pickup that opens up in back. I tell my wife that if she wants to buy anything that wont fit in the Expedition, she has to pay to have it delivered. I have yet to really find anything that wont fit in the back, I have put washing machines, dishwashers, paint rigs, water blasters, tools, dogs, plywood.......well you get the idea.

To each their own, I dont care for the Avalanche, but unlike the SUV haters here on ATOT, I figure if you like it and can swing the payments, then by all means get one 🙂

Look kids, a civilized comment. :Q

I'm used to hearing:
"It's fugly"
"Chevy sucks"

Thank you for setting a good example, Sluggo.
