Ordered a 3G iPad, and going to go back to a dumbphone.

Going to let the market settle down a bit.

I'm thinking about selling my iPhone and upgrading to a Motorola e815, yes I said upgrade. All this new wiz bang technology but the phones all suck at being phones.

I want a phone with good vibrate, a good web browser, that goes a week between charges, is sturdy, is not so expensive that I freak out if it slips out of my hand, has good reception, feels good to my ear and if it is a smartphone, it better connect to my stuff on OS X.

I realize that battery life is a little unrealistic with a smartphone. My current dumbphone does go roughly a week between charges though. The vibrate sucks, and i am not even going to call what it has a 'browser'.

At this point, I'm pleased with how powerful smartphones are, but not with their battery life. Smartphone battery life is not really going to improve either if they keep pushing the edge with higher performing parts. As soon as better battery technology comes out, they have something that takes up much more power which makes the final battery life of the new device no better than old ones.

I'd prefer a smartphone in a couple years that had the performance of an N1 but the battery life of a dumbphone over a phone that was 5 times faster but had only a handful of hours of heavy use battery life.

LOL

I'm sick of the battery life more than anything. Plus I'll be spending most of my time @ work in a lead shielded area with no signal :( I used my smartphone mostly at work, will find a GPS solution for the iPad or get a stand alone unit (am still lost as hell in LA).

You just described my BlackBerry. OK, not a good web browser, but still. It used to not get charged for days.

LOL, I just PM'd rudeguy that I'd likely be getting a Streak when they're available :)
I've hashed out a deal with my wife a week or so back. The day I got up to speed about the Streak/Mini/Whatever, I bartered a Key Lime Pie and some chocolate (6-pack of 3 Musketeers bars) for permission to get a Streak on release. :)

There was absolutely no arguing over that.

What's wrong with your battery life? Is it an iPhone or a Nexus One?

Ok, lets include no BB or WebOS in there. Or anything older than WP7 if it is WinMo. I have played with many blackberries, I just don't like them. And all the WebOS devices feel like demo phones, cheap plasticky demo phones, in my hands.

Whatever floats your boat. I couldn't go back to a dumb phone. If your lifestyle permits you to tote around an ipad then that would be a good solution. For me I need something more compact. Yes, the battery life sucks but my job revolves around a car so it's not a big deal 95% of the time.

Well a Blackberry will work for you if you are OK with inferior browser.

Oh and forget about WeBOS and battery life. Palm pre goes from 100% - 50% in a few hours (like morning to lunch time)

As I said, not too crazy about the BB OS in general. Part of me wants the iPhone to come to Verizon and then see if I can get just a data plan on it, but keep my current cell for talking.
