Where I work. Picket lines, machine sabotage, and they are gonna put the salary and contract labor to work in the plant making tires. Contract workers like me. :-(
We will be reduced to a fraction of the tires we usually produce.
And the news stations are already setting up outside...lol.

Haha well no they aren't 3 years old, but they are the union.
And I dont know what is going to happen with my normal job, or anyone else's.
But I won't have to build an entire tire. Just aid. So I might be stacking and organizing tires. I might be checking for problems with tread, or warped tires.
Who knows.

Well isn't that coincidental - USW is on strike where I work, too. They've been on strike since 5/15/06.

Dosen't your company make reactor fuel assemblies or something like that?

I hope you don't have the secretaries out there welding them up.:Q

Haven't other goodyear plants been on strike for awhile? I drive race cars, and the series I race in uses goodyear slicks. We had to switch to a different tire brand recently because Goodyear wasn't making enough racing tires, and we couldn't find the tire we use anywhere.

I can't really discuss what we do, but it is within the nuclear industry. And yes, there are secretaries who are currently doing production work.

The Goodyear plant I can see from my office window went on strike at noon. They negotiations have been on-going for months. From what I understand, management has been less than giving. It is uncertain how many of our employees will cross the picket line.

Much of the dispute is based upon Goodyear wanting to substantially increase the costs of health care for the retired workers. Retired workers made concessions in years previous on raises to keep the low-cost health benefits upon retirement, and now the company wants to change the agreement. Healthcare costs will increase over 10 fold if Goodyear gets it's way. Workers are also seeking pay increases.

I'm in Tyler, Texas.
And Goodyear is going to file for bankruptcy anyway. I doubt they care about the union right now. I have been told it's a waste of time at this point to picket.

Actually the main issue is Goodyear planning to close 2 plants which means layoffs.

Goodyear is trying to stay competitive with its competition.

Goodyear is in no way going to file for bankruptcy anytime soon, they are how wanting to close down the plant in Tyler.

Let's hope that they get some decent workers in there. Maybe one day they'll be able to just fire the union workers.
