is it self-pwnage yet?

i think the part where he kept dodging the reply to post the actual link to the auction, then him finally "copy/pasting" a false bid history, then someone finding the actual link to the bid history and him manufacturing the bid history to somewhat meet his story, all while everyone was telling him how wrong he was, is definitely self ownage.

Meh as others have said, no reason to get your panties in a twist over being "outsniped" on an auction.

For others that don't know the reason for sniping there are plenty.

1) Bidding draws attention to an auction. More attention means more people may start placing bids. If this is an item you want chances are you want it at the lowest possible price you can get it for. When there are other people bidding then a cheap price may be hard to get.

2) Many people who sell on ebay are unscrupulous. It's illegal to this, but many people use multiple accounts. You place a bid for $10 with a max of $50. The seller uses another account to start incrementing the bid up. Once they've gone over your max bid they then retract that bid. This sticks you with a $50 bid when you may have have gotten the item for $10 instead.

Bid sniping prevents both of those. However, in the case of two snipers within the last few seconds it whomever bid the highest is going to win. The OP doesn't realize that it is highly unlikely the other sniper had saw his sniped bid in the last 8 seconds and manually sniped at 2 seconds. Refreshing like that is hard to time manually in case there is a lag spike. More then likely the other bidder had set it up before hand and forgot about it.

lol that is totally not even what the OP said haha.

nice find and great ownage.

EDIT:

LOL!!! he even MANUALLY changed the bidding around in the paste he did above, which I'll quote below...

he totally left out and deleted the $390 bid by p***8 in his copy and paste, to make it almost match the story he told us.

so yes, the OP is officially the idiot of the thread.

LOL, nice find.

What a douche the OP is.

It's not like I go around begging for dates and every girl shot me down. Far from it; I can't count the number of times when I something basically feel into my lap and I screwed it up by not doing anything. I wish I had a valid excuse here but something isn't quite snapping for me.

I'll admit, I was trying to catch a bus and thus did not get my point across as clearly as I could have, but the point is across now. I have enough experience on ebay to know that most of these posters don't use ebay enough to know what they are talking about. W/e, point might as well be moot now seeing how quickly the thread took off.

rofl.

i like how he said this with his "paste" of the bid history...

yes, "us tools" need to "get this properly" when he is the one editing his own copy and paste job LOL!

What's up with your orgasms over this thread? Are you joining the leagues of all the other me-followers? (Many of whom are in this thread)

W/e, the point needed to be made by any means necessary.

self ownage threads are the most amusing ones.

eBay should switch to a bidding system like Gunbroker...if any bids are made in the last few minutes of an auction, the auction's end time gets extended by a few minutes.

Purposes of sniping.

If I made a thread in a hidden forum with a no title and no thread ID, you'd still manage to post in it wouldn't you?

Your point was just to whine and cry about losing an auction. Then you start calling everyone a tool and dumb for not understanding sniping. Then you got called out and showed that you had no idea what you were talking about. Then you got caught editing the bid history.

And yet you still are trying to defend yourself. Just give up dude.

Maybe he just likes watching people prove they are an idiot

God I hate those. Then it just becomes a matter of who has more time to waste following an auction as it just keeps getting extended and extended and extended and extended...

I haven't noticed that so much, though I haven't bought much via gunbroker. I think that if you eliminate the ability to auction snipe, people will be more inclined to use the system like you're supposed to, and just bid what you're willing to spend.

I've gotten into a couple of instances with a particular site where the timer gets down to 15 seconds before someone bids. Then it goes to 15 minutes. I place my bid. Then again at around 15 seconds another bid comes in extending the auction again. Rinse repeat until someone finally gives up

People will always try to game the system for their gain (Not that I don't understand the motivation I just find it really really annoying)

that doesn't change anything. if someone was willing to pay their true max bid before the initial timer ran out, and they get outbid and the time is extended, then they wouldn't rebid anyways since it's more than their max value.

it wouldn't work as desired just like ebay doesn't work as desired, which is why sniping can work sometimes.

If sniping works to some extent, then extending the auction after a late bid can work to a similar extent. We acknowledge that sniping works because many people don't enter their true max bid until they have been outbid at lower amounts. Extending the auction (by an hour, not just a few minutes) gives that person (or other people) a chance to outbid the sniper.

Whether this is something that eBay "should" do comes down to what their goals are. If the goal is to allow sellers to sell things at fair market value, then extend the auctions to kill the snipers. eBay doesn't care about this though, eBay has no qualms about screwing sellers because they know that the alternatives that sellers have are generally less desirable than eBay. The buyers on the other hand have many other places to buy from, at least now that so much of the stuff on eBay is new and not used or rare.

Wait a second - the OP is a self-proclaimed expert with
<drum roll>
A whole 96 transactions on ebay? What are you? 18 years old? Some of us have more than 96 transactions a year and have been on ebay since it started.

LOL

This has got to be one of the funniest self ownage threads I have ever read. Lets recap.

1) OP opens a thread whining about being outbid.
2) OP claims he is an ebay expert and everyone else is a tool.
3) OP "pastes" bid details to try and prove everyone else is wrong.
4) OP's details are proven falsified yet, OP continues to argue.

Good times! Props to gaidensensei for his strong googlefu! 😀
