Well, thing's are looking UP!! Looks like I'll KEEP my JOB! (and get promoted!)

Some of you may remember (and a few may even CARE 😉 ) about me posting about my boss's death awhile back, and me wondering if the shop would close, leaving me without a job. (BTW: It's a bicycle shop.)

Well there were a few people looking into buying the place, but I wasn't holding out much hope for it happening. The building we are located in is leased, and the lease is up in under a year. The owner has pretty much said that when the lease is done, the place is getting knocked down and a strip mall is going in.

Well, it looks like it's been SOLD!!

A woman about my age is buying it. She say's she will be retiring around Aug. and was looking for a business to get into afterwards. In the meantime I will pretty much be running the place. She knows NOTHING about the business and will depend on me to teach her what she needs to know.
She is also the best friend of the old owner's daughter.

I have run a few ideas by her, and so far she likes ALL my ideas for getting the place going again. And making it better than it was.
One idea I had involved the Jeep Van I just picked up.

The only other one I've seen is being used for advertisement. It's just sitting in front of a business, not even drivable.
So my idea is this. Paint it up with a logo of the shop on it and sit it in front of the shop (for advertisement) BUT. every once in awhile we get call's from people unable to get their bikes, or three wheel adult trike's in to have them repaired. So we do a pick-up and delivery service with the option of doing on site repair's. Also we rent bikes with the ability to deliver them to their motel etc. There are several road bike races in town every year, we attend the races for on site repairs. There is also a BMX race track several blocks from the shop so we setup there during races as well. Plus just driving the thing around town is invaluable exposer!

She LOVE'S the idea. There a many shop's in town, but none with this capability.

(Plus the upside for me, is that I should be able to get a free paint job out of the deal)

So things are looking UP for me!

My only real worry at this point is that she might have her sights set on ME!

Though she seems really nice, she's definitely NOT my type.
I guess time will tell how that works out!

<< Sounds like a great idea about the Jeep, but I think you should convert it into one of these first! 😉

Anyways, good luck with your endeavors!

Never say never. proximity is the highest component of attraction. The closer you are to her and the more you work with her the more attractive she will start looking.

she's retiring...assuming you're a young'un like us kids, she must be pretty well off 🙂 dot-commer?

Congrats on the good fortune 🙂

Next step to being an elite bicycle shop leader: Learn proper use of apostrophes.

Everywhere that I have highlighted you put an apostrophe that was not needed. They're simple plural words and you're trying to make them possessive.

Just a tip🙂 sorry Im a nitpicker

No, I'm one of the old codgers around here. 😉

48 and counting (backwards).

And YES I know my writing grammer leave's something to be desired.
But that's why I don't write for a living. 😉

congratulations and hope you better and better🙂

you guys got a website?

Well I thought about that, but it's much easier working FOR someone than being the boss.

When I get home at night, I'm ALL done.

Boss's are NEVER really done it seems.

I don't want to sound harsh at all, but I have a couple of things to say about that web site. The layout isn't bad, but get rid of those frames, ya know? I wouldn't have used bikes there on the web site if you don't have time to keep it up to date. It's unprofessional looking, IMO. I wouldn't be pimpin those Wal-Mart girls bikes on the web. Change it to a page (perhaps titled "Trade Ins") that says "we take trades," and "stop in or call for great deals on used bikes." or get rid of it altogether.

You sell kites there. That seems weird, unless you're the store right next to a real popular kite flying spot. Let me ask, is the kite business good, or is it a loser? (ie, takes up floor space, low % of bottom line, other stores in town serve the kite market better, etc.) If so, get rid of it as soon as you can. Why deal with them? OTOH, if it fills in enough to pay a couple bills, you might not be able to get rid of it so quickly, except by increasing bike business.

Sound's like you have a few good ideas already. Good luck.

I agree with what you say about the web site. I need to remake the site. (any help would be great!)
And the kites are going to go. ( I never did quite GET why we had them in the first place! )
We are probably going to start selling snowboards because we need something for the winter months when bike sales are slow.
Any other suggestions on the web site?
Or things to carry for the "off" season?

may I suggest in getting another location map. 🙂 perhaps a bigger map with clear locations of your shop. just a thought to consider. 🙂 good luck
