Well, there's the start of the ban on ammunition

Came down from the DRMS.mil and no "once-fired" brass can be resold. It has to be for scrap and mutilation has to be done in the presence of a DOD inspector. And the price of brass is so low that scrap is kinda useless.

So another area that was making money in the economy and they go and whack it.

Not to mention that a lot of police departments rely on manufacturers who use once-fired brass. Guess they'll have to get the money for new ammo somewhere...

"Effective immediately DOD Surplus, LLC, will be implementing new requirements for mutilation of fired shell casings. The new DRMS requirement calls for DOD Surplus personnel to witness the mutilation of the property and sign the Certificate of Destruction. Mutilation of the property can be done at the DRMO, if permitted by the Government, or it may be mutilated at a site chosen by the buyer. Mutilation means that the property will be destroyed to the extent prevents its reuse or reconstruction. DOD Surplus personnel will determine when property has been sufficiently mutilated to meet the requirements of the Government. "

There are very, very few companies that make new brass. ATK, Norma, Starline...Lapua.

There are hundreds of companies that rely on used pieces to produce ammo.

And folks think there is a shortage right now...

Well that is idiotic. I wondered how Obama was going to begin the process of curtailing guns but man is he going underhanded in its ways.

Good.

So now, bullets kill people? along with guns? but not people, right?

honestly, how will this stop ANYTHING... keep swinging on his nuts dude, this has absolutely no useful bearing, and will provide absolutely nothing of value to the country.

Can someone provide me with the text of Obama's ammunition ban bill? I looked in the OP but couldn't find it.

Sorry, but there is nothing in that document about banning the sale of ammunition.

I can't open the .PDF file, but it came up through Google.

edit - I can't find the term once fired, and this was the only entry for fired brass. Doc is from Feb 2009 and appears to not require destruction and to allow for it to be sold.

Cartridge Cases (Fired Brass) - Expended
Definition/Description
Ammunition components consisting of cartridge and shell casings are subject to the
International Traffic In Arms Regulations set forth in subchapter M of 22 Code of Federal
Regulations (22 CFR 120.1. et.seq). Once expended, they are processed as fired brass scrap,
with precautions to avoid improper release of unexpended cases.
Policy References/Authority
DOD 4160.21-M and DOD 4160.21-M-1.
Unique Processing Information/How to Manage
Receiving: The ETID/DTID must include the appropriate DEMIL code or clear-text statement for each
receipt. The turn-in must contain certification that the residue is inert. Two signatures, a certifier and a
verifier are required. Opening sealed/banded containers invalidates the inert certification. DRMOs will
inspect what is readily visible (open boxes and drums) to verify the absence of contaminants, such as
live rounds. No other level of inspection is required.
NOTE: Not authorized for receipt from DLA Depot Recycling Control Points (RCPs).
Warehousing/Storage: Storage will be accomplished in a properly assigned DEMIL Code ?A? or ?B?
scrap pile.
Reutilization/Transfers/Donations: GSA regional offices are authorized to approve transfer to SASPs,
for donation to state and local governments, surplus expended cartridge cases (under .50 caliber) for
reloading of the cartridges.
DEMIL: All expended small arms cartridge cases (50 caliber and under) are assigned DEMIL Code ?E.?
Expended shotgun shell cases are assigned DEMIL Code ?A.? Expended artillery cases are assigned
DEMIL Code ?B.?
Sales: Sales in CONUS are authorized for casings 50 caliber and under (to satisfy local/reloading
market/demand only). The appropriate sales method will be determined based on location, commodity
condition, etc. as well as any current, unique sales/scrap processing initiatives that may be in place. End
Use Certificates are required for these sales.
Abandonment/Destruction: Used if specifically directed on a case-by-case basis.
Property Accounting: DEMIL performed code ?9? is authorized for casings assigned DEMIL Code ?E?
but no DEMIL is required. No additional unique property accounting required.

Does Bruno own a guns/ammo store?

If you yell "fire" in crowded restaurants enough times, extinguisher sales start skyrocketing.

Obama's win did more to help the gun industry than hurt it. Gun sales are through the roof. People are stockpiling ammo like it was Armageddon. CCW permit apps are up 90%. I wouldn't be surprised if anyone with a stake in guns/ammo sales railed against Obama in public while getting all their friends and family to vote for him in private.

Errr I thought recycling is a good thing?

If this is some sort of policy intended to stop gun violence, someone needs to be smacked upside the head. Doubling or quadrupling the price of ammo will not deter me from shooting someone - it's not as if doing so is a rational act where the person would budget their finance and decide to postpone the shooting, because ammo is expensive right now.

Yeah, I'm sure that they voted for him in private

Why not? They can barely keep anything in stock, and their margins are higher than ever. Banking major cash isn't reason enough to vote for him?

Yeah, it isn't like the criminal is going to go "Damn, I was going to shoot you for your wallet, but you only got $5 ? damn the bullet cost me $6, you can go"

Because if an AWB goes through then their sales will on expensive semi-automatic rifles will die.

Bruno, this has nothing to do with what you are trying to tie it to. Spent casings are sold in two ways; 1. for reloading. 2. for scrap.
All this new guideline says is if the casings are going to be sold as "scrap" it has to be certified it is actually scrap, and not usable for the purpose of reloading. That is the liquidation outlet's policy, and always has been. The only change to the policy is the destruction now has to be witnessed/certified.

Uhhhhhhhh did anyone actually read the thing? THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SPENT CASING BEING SOLD FOR RELOADING......geesh.

Honestly... I am a gun owner, and am concerned about such things.. I have a 6.5x54mm which I've hand loaded for even... but.. the people crying wolf about this stuff are just ridiculous. Shut up about this kind of stuff, and then people will take you seriously if they try to actually ban something...don't create fear mongering threads about things that have nothing to do with actually taking people's guns and ammo away. Save the outrage for when/if they actually do try something like that...people will take you seriously then.
