He really doesn't know any better, no more than someone raised religiously or something "trapped in the Matrix". He also forgets the concept of self government, and has slipped to the point that there is no self government but a caste system of us vs them, and we are required to be subservient and dependent on government, that police = god and they aren't just our neighbors and friends performing community service and that they can be wrong or have opinion and agendas of their own that often conflict with the need for government to remain neutral.
By the way, law enforcement's job is not to protect anybody. It is not to prevent crime. The concept of *preventing* crime is a presumption of guilty until proven innocent, the opposite of how our system of justice and liberty works. Law enforcement serves as an executor of the courts to ensure that justice and equal treatment and application of the law occurs. Not to protect anyone or prevent crime.
The role of law enforcement is to ensure that when a crime does occur, that those who broke the law are held responsible and brought to court for trial. That sometimes they happen to be there to stop a crime in progress is just blind luck. But again, it's not a crime until it's actually began to progress as such. Real life isn't Minority Report where you find a reason to arrest someone when they haven't actually committed the crime, even if they want to.
Preventing crime means stopping crimes before they occur which means anyone and everyone is a potential suspect capable of committing a crime all the time. The only way to prevent crime in that context is the suspension of liberties on the people as a whole as a means to eliminate potentials. Any need or desire by law enforcement agencies to prevent crime is a grab for power beyond the scope of it's role in government; eg: a power grab.
When I shoot someone for trying to mug me, the police will arrive to take statements, talk to witnesses, and collect evidence and verify that no laws were broken and that I did not act unjustly. Nothing more. I will not be "taking the law into my own hands" as the laws on the appropriate and justified use of deadly force are very clear and are in fact the same laws police are supposed to be bound to (but seldom are as there are almost never severe consequences for botched raids, wrong houses vandalized, dead civilians who were rightfully defending their property from unlawful invasion and search and seizure from no knock warrants, etc, so really who is taking the law into their own hands, us or an out of control power hungry government?)
Well, for all of Obama's faults, none of what you all talked about has happened.
Only thing the election did was make buying primers, powder, brass and bullets a bitch for us sportsman who reload almost impossible for the first year or so he was in office, but now things are getting back to normal.
It's amazing now how much speculation runs our society.

I find it funny that people think the guns that aren't labeled "assault weapons" can't kill people. It's not like you can legally own a fully automatic AK anyway, at least not without permits up the ass. Assault weapons are just the guns that look the coolest: pistol grips, muzzle brakes, etc. You can kill someone just effectively with a lever-action deer rifle as you can with a military-grade M16.

With all the Blue-Dog Democrats, any anti-firearms legislation in this Congress was DOA.
Obviously, Righties find it uncomfortable when their old fearmongering is revealed for what it was at the time- emotional fearmongering.
Holder needed to show some solidarity with the law enforcement community at the time, which he did, given that they're the biggest and most influential advocates of gun control. He did that, and then did nothing. It's a trick he learned from repubs.
The most extreme gun advocates probably won't be happy until there are gun vending machines outside of every 7-11 in the country. Just pay cash or use your credit card, and a fully loaded handgun of your choice vends into the tray, like a candy bar...

It never happened- the Obama Admin never even introduced gun control measures at all, let alone any that might pass Congress. So all the raving and fearmongering from gun advocates was for nothing, other than pushing up the price of guns and ammo for awhile...

Holder knows he was spouting bullshit to placate part of the Dem base, that assault weapons play into crime scenarios only in a small way, and that there are probably enough high capacity magazines in this country in warehouses and openly displayed at gun shows to keep the freaks happy for years to come. Hell, he probably knows that his remarks spurred production and importation of semi-auto assault weapon clones and high capacity magazines. He's not stupid, but maybe the predictable knee-jerks were...

But it's important for a guy in Holder's position to make some noise, kinda like repubs making noise about abortion or balancing the budget. It's bullshit. Gun control isn't just a dead issue, it's poison, something Dems recognize at this point, and something rational gun owners recognize as well.
So, uhh, go stroke your toys and fantasize about your persecution, and try not to shoot anybody you don't have to shoot and it'll all be OK....
