That lense was $500?

actually it retails for 650$

this one is used in 10/10 condition from B&H so its not a scam, B&H is awsome

B&H is awesome! I bought a used (I think it was returned) Canon 70-200mm f/4.0L USM lens from them about 3 years ago for $400. The lens has been flawless and should work perfectly with the 300D I'm planning on purchasing soon. I also bought this lens from them last summer. It's not as fast as the f2.8 but it costs about $1000 less also.

Gotcha.

I used to have a 28-55mm and a 70-210mm lens figuring I didn't want to carry around so many lenses.

f/2.8 for a 70-200mm is very nice though. Min was something like f/2.8-5.6. I haven't been into photography in 15 years (Canon T-90, Contax RTS-2 owner) and it seems like lens technology has come a long way.

Comparison pics of prime versus zoom lenses? I didnt know they were sharper.

i dont know if any side bt side tests have been done, i just know from expirence, with lenses the more they cost the better they are, this is true about 98% of the time

Hey anibus, I hope this doesn't sound bumb, but will the lens shoot up close along with telephoto type images? at work with our 10D, we have a macro zoom that will ONLY shoow macro, nothing else and it's a monual zoom with a price tag at $2k :Q

yes it will take "normal" pics and not just macros

That is a great product. I am using the same thing to clean my camera.

nice lens... but on a dslr what are you using it for? that makes the focal length 165mm or so... and that lens is primarly designed for portrait work on a traditional 35mm lens - not to say that its a bad lens though 🙂

Not so. Rather, not quite that significant a distinction across the board. Much of the misnomer regarding Zoom lenses stem from 'consumer' grade zooms being compared to 'Pro' grade primes. There are Zoom lenses in both Canon's "L" and Nikon's Nikkor stable as well as some third party glass which rival many primes in all but the most exacting applications. I support that it is generally accepted that a Prime will be more sharp in resolving power than a Zoom due to capabilities which may include a faster aperture, fewer elements to cause distortion or perhaps higher quality of glass (this being more true for Macro work than not). However, unless you are printing media which pushes that resolving power to its' limit (Heavily cropped images or prints 13x19" or larger) most consumer and pro-am photogs will never see the difference. The "L" and "Nikkor" Zooms that are close to if not comparable to Primes are in the obvious minority; however a .001% frequency of a not that significant relevancy is a bit misleading. Sharpness being a relative and also differing aspect of image quality; Depth of Field and Bokeh (Out of Focus Background) also weigh in heavily on the quality of image a particular lens is capable of producing. One lens's grace is another's baine so to speak. That is, a Zoom which covers a 80mm focal range could be as sharp as a 80mm prime but it may or may not have as smooth a bokeh or defining depth of field as the other. Depending on your preference for the image you're capturing one lens may produce more desirable results than the other.

A number of forum members in Fredmiranda.com and Pekka's Canon Forum (many whom are professional) have posted their own comparisons of images taken with the popular prime and zoom lenses. The test methods and images speak for themselves. Surprisingly, quite a bit of their work bears out that except for uniquely demanding situations there are zooms which produce images indistinguishable from their prime counterparts within the same aperture and focal range. Zoom equaling prime in image quality is not the rule, rather the exception to the rule. But it's a rule which is seeing its lines being blurred as optical quality improves and the consumer market funds the research which provides a quality of product that was once the exclusive tool set of professionals.

I know I beat the point on this a bit further than needed and that the "Primes are sharper than Zooms" statement is correct in general fashion but I figured I'd broaden the field by expanding that .001% of sampling to a more approachable .05% 😉

Anubis Congrats on the D70 and exciting purchase that 105mm f/2.8 Nikkor. Nice lens.

Looking forward to seeing some pics with your gear!
