Nice lense :D

Hows the D70 holding up? Taken many shots? How do you find it? TOO SLOW? :p

My gf has one and she likes it but not sure how much she has found time to use it though.

have you heard anything (good or bad) about the remote control?

they are only about $16 and would be great for taking long exposure shots as well as self-portraits and such

i have heard both ways about it, there are some other ones that will work as well that i thik are better, check the Dpreview forums for more info on it, i dont have one and now i realize i should have ordered one with that lens

you dont actually need one for long exposures, i take alot of 10-30sec exposures with out one and they come out fine

you will need it for "bulb" esposures tho

I remember about twenty four years ago when I was in Hong Kong on a trip, I purchased two Nikkor 105 2.5 AI manual focus lenses (great for portraits) for $130 apiece. I brought them back to San Francisco and sold one of them for $260 and I kept one for myself for free. These deals are now over and you can probably buy them cheaper thru mailorder from New York.

no i doubt it but it can take cool pics of bugs

my 70-300mm F.4.5-4.6 Ed lens does a better job at spotting honies from far away

Drool.

What are you going to be using for macro lighting? If you don't have anything yet let me know. I'm working on a cheap solution usable for all cameras...

Keep in mind that ambient light sucks when you're stopping down a macro lens to get maximum depth of field.

I'll PM you about the lights...

Wouldn't it be more flexible to get a zoom instead?

usefull for macro,

ihave a zoom that covers 105 but PRIME lenses are SHARP as anything, and this happens to be one fo the sharpest ever made, It has a fast apature of 2.8 which is as good as it gets
a zoom that does that at this range would cost 3x as much

on a normal SLR its called the long Portrait lens, 85mm being the norm the 85 f/1.4 or f/1.8 being the lens
portrait range is from 70-130mm there abouts

on a DLSR the 105 becomes ~155mm because of the 1.5x crop factor, makeing it an excellent medium telephoto that is FAST, and for macro it gives you more working room so you dont have to be ontop of your subject

99.999% of the time a "prime" lens (single focal length lens) will be signifigantly sharper than a zoom. Plus, macro (or, for Nikon "micro") lenses tend to be optimized for sharpness across a flat field. Useful for phogographing things like paintings, stamps, etc.
