Well the rep two tier plan is a non starter

Debt&

Any plan that doesn't preserve AAA rating is pointless in my book; what they're putting forth makes about as much sense as the progressive's budget (spend more, tax people to pay for it).

If they pass this tax onto us (AA rating), I voting each and every one of these assholes out.

Yeah I was watching this on CNN earlier, the republicans don't get it, even if the debt ceiling is raised it doesn't mean the USA AAA rating is going to be held.

To loosely paraphrase from Moody's, the USA's economic situation has been deteriorating for a decade, and the % of GDP spend on servicing it's debt is something like 5-7%, vastly in excess of other AAA rated countries.

The purpose of this whole excercise isn't just to find a debt solution, it's to prevent the AAA rating to go, because the burden of that will increase the problems for everyone.

The only reason the debt servicing is that "low" is because interest rates are still near zero. Once we are no longer in danger of deflation and the inflation starts to kick into high gear from all the money we have put into the system recently, interest rates will go up. When that happens the amount we pay to service the debt will likely double, if not more.

"In turmoil there is opportunity."

This is the repub mantra that they've been operating under since Obama took office.

They've learned that the worse they make things for our country, the more they can tilt things their way.....and it's working. So who can blame them if they prefer to negotiate from a stance taken right of the movie "300": "Give them (Obama) nothing, Take Everything".

The repubs are gambling that by the time the '12 elections come around, the swing voters will have forgotten how the repubs held the country's economic stability hostage to make things better for the rich at the expense of everyone else. And again, they're probably right. When they again let loose their Swiftboat hit squads, now overflowing with corporate $$$ that the USSC blessed them with, they will blame Obama for everything bad that has happened, keep the Dems on the defensive and push the nation even further to the right, in spite of what is best for the rest of the nation.

The repubs feel they are unstoppable, and from the looks of things, especially from the weak, "compromising" look the Dems have been/are giving them, they're justified to feel that way.

In a nutshell from recent history, the repubs, with Cheney and Bush leading the way, crashed us into dire economic straits and have used this crisis for a singular purpose: make the government weaker and weaker to make the rich stronger and stronger. They are succeeding.

In a form so predictable to and advantageous for the repubs (the rich), they are making the Dems cave in to their demands. The repubs have a successful formula and they're working it hard.

It's quite simple.

President Obama must cave.

Nothing more, nothing less.

This IS the Tea Partiers, saying "Hello, President Obama."

If Obama, doesn't cave, it's all on him.

So is this what the Democrats did when Bush was in office? Or was that different?

I believe saving our AAA rating will require $4 trillion in cuts and the plans offered by the Democrats are not even close to that number.

Nor Republicans. Far as I can see with some simple math 2.7T is more than 1.2 trillion.

Sure about that?

Compromise must be reached by both sides.

Thus far the Democrats have shown they are willing to compromise with serious cuts to SS and Medicare and other social programs.

How have the Republicans compromised?

Believe me once the shit hits the fan, the American people will turn on the Republican party and the Tea Baggers very quickly. They are playing with fire, but are too stupid to realize it.

He's fought it to almost he brink of destruction, of our country (and that's pretty sad), but he is beaten, and he looked beaten in the speech tonight.

His speech was a cry for Socialism (Health Care, etc.), but he is soundly beaten by the rest of America; the America that stands for Freedom.

Of course they didn't constipated.

Obama is looking to preserve spending at ALL COSTS.

-John

Democrats have offered 3 Trillion in spending cuts which reform their holy grail SS and Medicare for 1 Trillion in Revenue Increases some of which are tax hikes.

House Republicans are the ones that aren't willing to make any sort of compromise. Even Republicans in the Senate seem willing to deal.

I bet if Obama offered a few hundred billion in Tax cuts for the wealthy they would let the debt limit go indefinitely.
