Back in 10th grade Health class, the discussion was about STDs. Towards the end of the class, the teacher asked a friend of mine who was not paying attention if it was possible to get Herpes Simplex 2 from Herpes Simplex 1? Without missing a beat, he answered, "I suppose, if you can bend that far"; the class erupts in laughter, the bell rings, and we were outta there. Never did find out the answer; there were no interwebs, cellular data plans, "www"s, or twitters to be had.

That's pretty much my entire Calculus class in a nutshell. Learn random formulas, never learn what they're applied for. My teacher said "you'll learn where these random formulas are applied to in real life in college". Hilarious, because most 90% of college fields don't even talk about Calculus at all.

If I die and there is a god and he says: "Eleven you can ask me any question, but just one, and I'll tell you the answer" I would ask: "If I banged Eve would it be incest?".

School is for fools. They don't teach you things worth knowing.

If you bang anyone, it's incest. If you bang Eve, it's necrophilia.

Similarly, I was told that "What comes around goes around" and then led to believe I would be informed as to why.

I still don't know why. :colbert:

Hahaha I'm the type of person that better understands if I can apply something to a real world situation. Needless to say, I sucked at calculus. When I'd ask the teacher for what would be a real time use, he's say "well if ever you work for NASA..." :awe: Even at NASA they probably have computers that do the hard part. I can't imagine calculating every portion of a mission by hand. If the earth is rotating at this speed and the launch pad is at this angle according to mars and mars is rotating around the sun at this speed.... yeah, pretty sure they have computers to do that. :p Whoever designed the programs is a genius no matter how you put it though.

Not everyone, but most people. IIRC, globally ~80% of the adult population has it, in the US ~50% do. It depends on the specific areas though, but effectively is very widespread.

sometimes teachers are just stupid.

The answer is still no.
Both hsv-1 and hsv-2 can cause genital lesions.
But hsv-1 does not magically turn into hsv-2 or vice-versa

I usually lurk but... http://xkcd.com/386/

I thought that there are cases where HSV1 can lead to HSV2 infections? Not super common but possible? Or is it a case of the genital lesions being misdiagnosed as HSV2? It seemed to be more complex than say just oral sex with someone who had an contagious HSV1 infection too.

it's possible to get HSV1 and HSV2 in both locations. So you can have genital herpes that are of the HSV1 strain. Likewise, you can have 'cold sores' that are of the HSV2 strain. It's less common, but possible.

Hence, if you are dating someone that gets 'cold sores', it is possible to contract it in your genitals via oral sex.

My feces smell of rose petals and orange peels with a hint of cinnamon. You sir are of brutish origin and lack of basic hygiene. I bid you good day.

Good old high school health class. All the guys had to take a hunter safety class. Can't imagine that happening now, unless it's in some rural school somewhere.
