I mean the only unit which is doing the figthing over there is the Foreign Legion.....

Did they get UN approval to have this little action. According the head of france, war means you have failed.

Maginot line was WWII, not WWI..

The insane number of deaths came from the lack of mobility on the battlefield (thanks to the invention of the machine gun, and until the invention and use of the tank, the lack of tactics to effectively deal with them). Also, the stubborn insistence of the Germans on taking the city of Verdun, and the equivalent stubbornness of the French in defending the city. Trench warfare + artillery + human wave attacks + machine guns = lots of death.

1.3 million military dead or killed.

Just something to consider while having a good laugh dishonoring people who also died fighting beside us in our Revolutioanry War.
