I don't like it. I had to open Mozilla more, covering up my chat client (so I can't quickly see who's online there). If it was on the right I'd be cool with it.

And the big empty blue bar at the top is annoying. Oh well.

there is too much ad space up at the top. i think they should shrink that down to half the size it is now and id like it much better. the stuff off to the left i dont mind but the top is really annoying. too much blue.

I don't like at all.

EDIT: My post from the FI forum.

Sadly I must agree with Confused. It just do not like it. The top just does not flow with the rest of the design.

The left nav bar is just annoying, and it really should be on the right.

I want to know why you will not move it to the right. If anything more people will see if when they go to scroll down the page.

Let me put it this way bub , most of the world reads left to right. Shifting all the text over to the right is annoying, distracting, and just plan backwards.

Finally it just plan looks bad. On my screen the top adds don't even stay in the blue area.

My post in FI:

It sucks.

I'm a subscriber still, and I've been dreading going back to the normal forums, and the reduced width of the message text. I can now see what people have been bitching about for the past year. It sucks. That side bar is pointless for me, I will never use it. I would MUCH rather have the drop-down navigation options at the top (and bottom), and have my PM notification back in the main body. I don't need to see an overview of my PMs, and I don't care about seeing my favourites listed, nor my buddy list. If i want those, there is the "My Forums" page for them.

I have to say, I always liked the layout of Anandtech forums, and Fusetalk, but after seeing what has changed in the past week, that view has hit rock bottom, and has started digging.

Actually, I kinda like it too... my biggest beef about the nav-dropdown was that if you replied to a post and then wanted to get back to the forum listing for the forum you were in, the nav-dropdown wouldn't take you there... you needed to either have your favorites bar open to select a link to the forum or his back 3 times...

I like it, as the drop down selection menu no longer appears at the bottom of the messages, so I found myself scrolling all the way back up to do it... granted, I will still be doing this, but... ah heck, I don't like it! I want the drop down selection menu at the bottom of messages as well as the top again! :(

edit: it's not even at the top anymore, guess I'll have to get used to the menu side bar. No biggie.

Agree, it sucks! It's irritating the crap out of me! Why isn't there an option to remove it? I liked the change in the forums, but this really LOOKS BAD, UGLY and SUX ASS!!!

It's just a guess but I'm figuring they're going to allow ads to run in the space below the "My Menu" bar. And it makes sense, since they've done away with the Subscriber option -- a completely stupid idea I might add. :frown:

AND, I don't use a mouse most of the time (old command line guy) so I use the TAB key to get to the links. WELL, they just added about 30 links to my TABBING! !

I'm with you, amdxborg, IT SUX ! !

OR, click on the "DISTRIBUTED COMPUTED" Link at the top or bottom of the Thread.

if they would make the excess space on the advertising bar black instead of blue i wouldnt mind it so much because it would at least match my color scheme and be easier on the eyes.

My first reaction was "NO!" but now I'm thinking, "Well, maybe..."

I understand the site is fueled by ads but this new layout is awful. On the system I'm using now (17" @ 1024x768) I can only see the first 8 lines of the Hot Deals forum because about 50% of the display is taken up by the AnandTech tabs at the top, a blue bar and a single ad under it, and now My Menu with an ad below it on the left. There's so much unnecessary junk on the top and sides of this forum we're going to need 27" monitors just to display what a 21" would show without these "features" and ads. It's getting to the point that the forums are difficult to read on a 17" monitor and since many are still using them or even smaller that's not a good thing for this site. Oh, and *PLEASE* bring back the subscriptions!!!

they certainly should have rules for advertisements...

specifically the height on the ads across the top. they're just way too tall

what happened to the good ol' standard banner height/width? :(

i'll be sure to not buy mushkin memory any longer thanks to their ugly and poorly sized marketing images. have a nice day, mushkin

I don't mind the menu at all considering you can turn it off or on in your profile depending on if you like or don't like it. EDIT: Nevermind that doesn't work
