Well that's it I'm quitting my job, spent 3 hours in traffic again

I can't take it anymore I've spent the last 3 years travelling 120 miles to work per day, on a good day I could make the drive in 1 hour (1 way). But lately its taking me anywhere from 2 hours (1 way) and more just to get back and forth. I finally decided tonight that I can't go on any longer, I'm sick and tired of only having 2 hours to myself in a day. I plan on sending my resume out tomorrow and hopefully I can find anothjer job within the next few weeks.

So how long does it take you to get back and forth from work?

lol, no I'm in IT

but actually I wanted to be an architect, thus the name

45 minutes on the train. I usually read a book, sleep, or zone out looking out the window listening to music. Not bad.

I'm thinking of selling my house to get the equity and moving into something cheaper. In the meantime I'd really like to find a part-time IT gig, that way I could devote the rest of my time to real estate investing (my true passion right now).

Can you move closer to your work?

I've thought about that many times, but it's more cons than pros. Real estate near my job is almost 2 or 3 times higher than where I currently live, in addition to that all my friends and family would be on the other side of town.

Don't make any rash decisions, it's been a long time this way from what it seems and so a little more time won't hurt, wait for the right opportunity IMO, all about timing

Just started a 3 month contract about 40 miles from my home, catch is those 40 miles are via I-95 in Connecticut (New Haven to Stamford)... takes 90 minutes in the AM & 45-60 in the PM... two weeks in & it already really sucks!

I'm 1.3 miles from work .... thats maybe 5 minutes to drive. Lemme tell ya, its such a pleasure to have that commute. Bad news tho .. just decided to relocate and my commute will then be around 15 minutes now ... arghhh, what a killer !! *hehe*

Cripes, you could always move closer, WTF? And, you don't want to know how long it takes for my 5 mile commute!

Edit: Real estate near my job is almost 2 or 3 times higher

In other words, you'd have a smaller house for the same money. I'd take the shorter commute. You don't visit friends & family near as much as you commute to work. Unless you saddle one of your family with baby sitting duty, like so many people do these days.

Mine is about usually about one hour each way. I plan on moving closer in a few months though.

yeah that's definitely the way to go if possible. When I think about all the time I lost in traffic in just one year it makes me want to cry. This month alone I spent about an average of 5 hours per day in traffic mutliply that by 11 and that comes out to 55 hours. That's 55 hours I could have been playing video games, sleeping, making love, reading, scratching my head, etc...

Took me 20 mins at my old job. Gonna start working at school next semester; about a 15 minute walk for me. Really going to save me on transportation expenses.

I keep thinking that, but I feel soo.. can't even think of the right word. I'm just like all tight inside, I feel like a bomb ready to explode.
