Well since I lost my OS and I have an A64...

Well, I lost my OS in my other thread, and I've already backed up everything I need from it.

I don't feel like calling up MS for the 6th time to get the cd key again.

But anyways, would you guys recommend installing XP64?

Any drawbacks to it? TIA.

Drivers are still premature..

Might as well just call M$ for the Key..

And not to be the "wrong forum police"

But WRONG FORUM!

😉

no dont install it, its not really worth it although every single piece of hardware i have has drivers and drivers that i myself have not had one single issue with.
Nvidia motherboard and video. promise SATA controller, NVidia Video, Audigy 2 drivers, pretty much everything i have has drivers,
its just not an OS you want to use everyday,, i have it as a 2nd os and i do frequently use it,, but its nothing really worth using fulltime at the moment.

and for pete's sake jesus write down thedamn XP key on your monitor if you have to so you dont loose it, write it on the inside of your case or something.

Well, I'm installing it, I ran into a problem though. It seems when installing it keeps running into missing files. I don't want to skip it because it might mess up. Could this be caused by bad burning or something?

Is the 64-bit worth the trouble of drivers and stuff? Honestly I thought about it, not worth it to me.
WinXP x64 Edition only gives me one major problem: I can't use my TV tuner/capture card. The only other thing that bothers me is not really a problem - I can't overclock my x800 Pro, the developer of Radclocker won't let me have a copy of his x64 radclocker. 🙁

missing files is because you used shittttyyyyy cd's go buy some decent cd's and use a good cd burner and the missing files wont happen.
either that or the cd drive that is reading the cd that you burnt is bad but typically missing files is from bad blank cd's

and if you get missing files dont tell it to skip those files or you xp install will be fubar'd.

No offense, but how can you lose your CD key SIX times? Have you ever thought of writing it down???

I don't but I have to get a new one everytime I reinstall XP.

(I bought an upgrade).

All my good CD's are gone. That's what I think the problem was. I had to use the two free ones from Newegg. Turns out they could be only burned at 8x. I was burning at 40x...

There's a difference between a CD/Product key and an activation code...yes, the activation code would be different each time, but you should be able to re-activate over the internet every few months, especially if you have the same hardware. And if you DO have the same hardware, there's a way you can save your activation license file so you won't need to re-activate.

Hey Vetteguy! Do you visit CF? Just wondering if you were a member there.
I've re-activated 5 times already in the past 4 months. 😱
