So I picked up the '95 240SX yesterday...its perfect in everyway! It had a slight rattle coming from the trunk which was killed by adding a bumpstop that was missing. It has a CD/tape player, 6 speakers, sunroof/moonroof, leather, 5-SPD, ABS, and a limited slip differential in the rear.

Its fun to drive, and I"m getting used to the 5-spd. However, RWD is a little tough. The car has fishtailed on me once but it was easy to control. Never again will I try to take a turn a little fast in this car, atleast till I learn it. Winter driving is going to be slow, VERY slow.

The car came with Michelin MXV4 205/55R16 tires. How do they perform?? I'm going to put snow tires on, but which one should I get? I'm thinking of Blizzaks but I heard they wear out to quickly. How are Michelin Artic Alpins or Pirelli SnowSport 210s??

Thanks

All the best cars are RWD. Once oyu learn to drive it, you'll know how far you can push it in turns. FWD is booorrrrriiing

I know..it just takes time to learn. And since winter is coming I don't want to push it. Once spring arrives I'll push it a little.

Right now I'm being careful with it. I knew my Corolla pretty well and I knew when it would understeer...it was possible to induce oversteer if you wanted to. In the 240SX, it oversteers quite easily, however Its easy to correct.

Nice pickup! I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Definitely look into snow tires. Read TireRack for reviews of snow tires. You can probably pick up some cheap steel wheels and snow tires. Just change into the snow tires when snow is in the immediate forecast.

Enjoy the Ride!

The Blizzaks do wear down pretty quick, but realistically they'll still last you several winters - as long as you only use them a few months out of the season (December to March, for example).

Nice car, btw. How bout some pics of her? :) (note this isn't some stupid "pics" request; this is a legit question.)

Pics will come on the weekend. It gets dark early over here, so by the time I come home from school, its already dark.

The car is in mint condition, and dealer was pretty good. They waxed the car, cleaned the rims, applied tire polish, conditioned the leather, cleaned the dash and applied Armor All or something.

The car has a few scratches on the paint, but other than that it looks great. Pretty quiet too for a rough engine.

I guess I should shop around for either Blizzaks or Pirelli SnowSport. Thing is they have so many different models withing the series that its hard to remember them.

<< Rear wheel drive is easier to drift. =) >>

RWD is also easier to hit the curb while drifting, bend the rim, and damage the suspension components (which is quite advanced) and then get my ass kicked by my parents. No thank you. My dad trusts me with the car, so I have to show responsibility. I also wanna keep the car in good shape cause I plan on buying it off him, and getting him a nicer car (350Z) if I can afford it (in the future).

Here's how you get rid of that fish tailing. Upgrade to suspension - full customization. Add racing slick tires. Reduce the rear camber to 0 and tighten up the front and rear spring rates, leave the front a little tighter than the rear. Maybe 7.1/6.8 or something.
And you Gotta get weight reduction stage 3 and turbo upgrade stage 4!

Oh wait....

RWD is excelent. I learned in to drive in a RWD car... (oops, I'm that old?!?!?)

Congrats, and welcome to the Nizzan family. I was thinking about picking one of those up, but I think I'm getting another Max instead... :Q

We already got a Max, a '99 GLE.

So we now have an all-Nissan driveway. My dad has his eyes set out on a 3.2TL though..which are nice cars, maybe in a few years.

How about an I35 instead then?
Or maybe the new G35?

I'm glad to see your showing a lot of care for this car :)

As for drifting, start small, slowly sliding the tail out around gentel bends until you can predict the car. It will come in time :D :D :D

I drive an '89 240SX. When I was 16 as a result of RWD and freaking and not properly correcting a fishtail, I hit a fire hydrant. $4000 in damage to the car

I can handle the car, don't get me wrong, I'm just taking it easy till spring comes around. I wanna learn the car before I do anything *exciting*. Luckily I have a Limited Slip Differential the rear which helps quite a bit (as I noticed today in the rain). The rear end starts to sweep out and suddenly the LSD transfer power to the other wheel, I get grip, and the rear end just corrects itself and I can continue on my way. Quite nice.

In the summer, I plan on taking the car to the track and practice over there. Also find an empty parking lot and learn the car in the winter.

But I'm not going to try the stunts I did when I was driving the Corolla (they can corner quite well if you know what your doing).

On another note, its weird drivng a sports car. The steering is different compared to the Maxima and Corolla, I like it. Also there is minimal body roll! When I change lanes the car is so flat! Its unbelivable. If I turned the wheel from side to side, the car moves without any roll. In the Corolla, it would feel as if a boat was rocking side-to-side in the sea.

That is all. :) :)
