"In this league at this position, you have to bring it every single week no matter what (and) in the situation (against the Packers) it felt like I was going to play about a half, it's the last game, New Year's Eve, and there were so many factors that brought my focus away from what is actually important," Grossman said.

Translation: He didn't commit the way starting quarterbacks need to commit. He believed everyone who told him and his teammates that the Packers game didn't matter.

It was a stunning admission for any NFL quarterback to make and one that indicted the Bears' coaching staff for allowing his mind to wander as much as it did Grossman for wandering. Grossman's honest self-assessment also will renew questions by his critics about his mental preparation, an issue about him that hadn't been broached since before the 2003 NFL draft.

When a team leader like Grossman openly admits his head wasn't where it needed to be before kickoff, it affects the bigger picture. That's part of the burden of the position, a weight Grossman keeps learning how to carry.

"That is something I'm never going to do again," Grossman said of losing concentration. "There is too much I'm responsible for to not give it 100 percent and full attention the whole week."

sheesh. great to know the QB does not care about the game. that partyies are more important. damn

so this is a reason for one game. whats his reason the other 4 or so he had?

He's a mediocre quarterback. Don't know why he gets so much praise. Maybe it's just because the Bears are at least winning again.

He sucks?

So he's had 5 bad games out of the 20 he's played in his career.

That mean he has a 75% chance of playing extremely well, come the playoffs. I'll take those odds.

It would be hard for me to care about winning too, because even if I lost the game I will still make $25 million.

heh that 5 is just THIS YEAR. not to mention the 20 games is OVER 4 years.

rex is scarry. when he is hot he is great. just amazing when he is doing everything right.

but he is easy to rattle. not to mention he is not mature enough yet to be a starting QB.

He got praise because for the first 5 games of the season he had a passer rating like 115 or something, tops in the NFL. But it's all been downhill since the Miami game.

Ah well. ESPN today was bringing up the point that this could really hurt the Bears, if the rest of the team starts questioning why they should care if the QB doesn't. And is the O-Line going to work extra hard to give him protection, or...?

and who are we supposed to play? Old man river? Orton? 13-3 with Grossman as starting QB. All these idiots make it seem like we are 3-13

Well, atleast the Packers game may have ended the QB contraversy... well, maybe the one of Grossman vs. Griese - but it may have began the new contraversy Grossman vs. Maynard. :)

yeah heard that also.

i know it would piss me off if i was his team mate. you bust your ass to do the best job you can but then hear the most important member of the team says it is not important enough to get ready for.

Its wierd. he has some of the highest rating and the lowest. he either does great or try's to lose the game for them.

Personally i would rather have a consistant ok QB over Rex.

Well, he needed an excuse for the 0.00 passer rating or he would have been benched...

I would have said the same thing before Tommy Harris went down... but I just don't think the Bears can win the super-bowl anymore without a spectacular performance from the QB position.

If we could just "borrow" Payton Manning for a few games.

wrong.

he has had other 0.0 ratings. Lovie always says he is the QB. no question about it.

i just hope he does not have a 0.0 rating in his playoff series..

13-3 in spite of grossman, not because of him

Exactly what position do you play on the Bears? ;)

Grossman is mediocre at best. Put anyone behind that O-line with the bears D and they will do just as well, if not better.
Sexy Rexy will most likely be the reason why the Bears won't make the superbowl.

Not quite.

If the Bears are 1 & out, it'll most likely be the defense's fault, they've been playing very poorly lately. The entire fate of the team doesn't rest on Rex's shoulders - but certainly he is not going to help compensate for the team's other problems.

Fortunately the NFC is such a big pile of dung, I still think the Bears have a good chance to make the superbowl. :)
